Night stopover A38 south of M5 approx midnight
Firstly, thank you to everyone who gave such fantastic advice regarding driving distances and stopovers on our trip to Hillhead, Devon. In the end we travelled from Lincoln to Devon with an hour stopover and made it in 7 hours.
We are travelling a tad further in August from north Lincs to Looe, Cornwall and want to set off at 6pm and park up around midnight just to push out some z's till the morning. With only about an hour or so o do the following day. Ideally I'd like to stop somewhere on the A38 -I'm guessing due to the time of night a site is out so any seasoned Cornwall travellers, can you help? Anywhere (not on M5) you can think of we can park up and kip?

Nothing springs to mind, KD, other than a truck stop at Lee Mill just west of Ivybridge, but it's not something I've ever had a need to look out for.
I know you said not on the M5 but, if you change your mind, Taunton Deane Services is particularly easy to use with a caravan. Exeter Services is the product of the devil.

Agree with Tinwheeler, the laybys on the A38 are the "on the road type" not good except for very short stops. I'd definitely say Sedgemoor or Taunton services. Remember you'll only have a two hour stay unless you pay. The best stopover at present is at Gloucester
services, new and well away from lorries.0 -
On reflection I think you'll get to Looe in about 8 hours, would it be easier to have an early night and set off from home around 4 am?
We really want to avoid the morning rush hour and setting off at 4 means we will hit really busy parts during peak times. We've just been to Devon so know the sticky bits. I'll keep an eye out here just to see if anyone comes up with a suggestion or somewhere
that takes late late arrivals!!0
