CLOSED - Prices of pitches

I spend much of my caravanning year on sites with all the facilities mentioned, pools shop restaurant although we rarely use much apart from the shop. The point is that the pool is there but nobody forces one to take a swim, its nice at times AND providing
we don't pitch too close it causes no inconvenience .However we are paying a fraction of club site prices and might feel different about unused facilities if we were...But that is normally at the time of year when the sites are not making up the loss they are taking to just keep going, rather than the higher cost of closing them and reopening
Thats not always true, I use an all year site in Portugal that was probably 80% full in May and taking bookings (with large deposits) up to 5 years ahead. With a discount for a long stay we paid £12pn for a serviced pitch.
...I did not say they were not full at the "cheap" prices ,but how much are they this time of year

didn't i show you last week, that a week at SB or at Lytton Lawns was actually 15% cheaper for the week than our previously used CC site?
yes, the weekend price was hiked up, but the remainder of the week was so cheap that a family having a week at either of these was saving money.
while club prices are more consistent, they are consistently high...
last week of course was not school holidays, so a family with school age children might find it difficult to take advantage of the mid week prices and could only go for a weekend. I would be interested to know if the same pricing structure applies in a weeks
time, when the schools break up.Any response to this BB? As we were talking about the price for families, it would be interesting to know.

There seems to be a fair bit of protestation that discounted low season/midweek prices are subsidised by peak season ones. The converse argument could be made that by improving low season take-up, the improved occupancy encouraged by discounts subsidise
the peak season prices.0 -

i gave you my actual experiences of the price we paid for the two commercials i mentioned and for the two cc sites we used...i dont use sites (anywhere) in school holidays...
if anyone wants to know the prices of any cc site and compare them to other sites at other times, they can use the web sites as easily as i can....
I think that is my answer BB. A family with school age children would not obtain the same offer when they could use it. I am not disputing there are good offers out there for us retired folk, or even those holidaying without school age children. However,
we can't compare the prices we can get away from school holidays, with what they have to pay when the schools are out.0 -
Hello all while I have not done a huge survey like some, I do agree with most of the comments on here that CC prices are high.If yu shop around there are as good for less.I do not get the seperate charge for people and pitches, after all a family of 5,who
are out with the kids somwhere all day, are likely to use less in facilities than say a couple who stay on site, using facilities all day.so I think they should have just one price for the pitch, charging for people is justa money grabber. This season will
only be my third, but will be seriously considering CC membership0 -
You make several assumptions, MrL. What about the couple in a MH who turn up at 6pm, sleep and leave at 9pm. Should they have a reduction? Or the family of 4 who stay on site all weekend enjoying the kiddies play area etc. It's quite clear to me that, generally
speaking, the more people who are in a unit, the more facilities, water, electric they are likely to use. Don't forget the discounts that exist for children.0 -
Your MH comment is a good one, and maybe they should.Children grown up so do not look at those prices, I appreciate it is complicated, but the high prices in the school hol time, make it a very costly, and who wants to go in the out of season cold months
all the time, mind you witht this summer not much difference.ha.0 -

This season will only be my third, but will be seriously considering CC membershipWrite your comments here...On the other hand would it not be fairer to all to charge only per person per night and remove the pitch fee entirely. So for example for a couple, instead of charging say £8 pitch fee and £8 per person as at present, total per
night of £24 --- the new charges would be £12 per person. Exactly the same amount but much fairer once you start charging for singles or large families. It would reflect facility use more accurately.K

Agree entirely......and get rid of the reduced rates for kids......they use the facilities every bit as much as adults.

Write your comments here...Nice post Ian, but could you not be a little generous and make a small £1 reduction from what adults pay, on each kids nightly charge. Just to show that the CC can appreciate families.
Or am I just a big softie. ??

the peak season prices...They certainly are at the Loss leader Prices ,it does not work on the SB /Haven,eye watering peak prices and if it does then I would hate to think what their peak prices would be

JVB... The more important point ( which you neatly sidestepped) is could it work in the CC if they reduced off peak prices to attract those who go elsewhere

Can any one who is also a member of the c&cc advise please advise how their prices compare ,not including the "oldies" discounts, ie for a couple /family at this time of year? or is it just the cc who are, in some peoples mind, is expensive ,compared to
the other sites of the same model0 -
I for one would certainly return to CC "Off peak" if their price were more competitive. Not necessary at the Haven prices but say £12. per night for a couple mid week Oct-May ( excluding school holidays). Just about the prices of the CC no facility prces
until they jacked those up from £11 just a couple of years ago.( Cant use those as they are closed during the off season). I estimate on current usage the extra income from me alone would be £5/600 per season.0 -

Its nothing to do wih what children use. I've explained this before to you why it happens and its is actually by attracting children that the club makes more money. No other travel or leisure service (train, hotel, cinema, holidays, airline... the list is
quite endless) charges the full rate for children even when they use a full adult's seat or service. Why is this? its not because they are kind hearted towards families, it is because they attract full paying adults who would go otherwise
go elsewhere. If the club charged full price for children those caravans and Mh would all go somewhere else, sites would be emptier (you claim they are struggling to fill up now) income would be down and then prices would have to go up.When you're on holidayabroad do you complain about the children's free places/reduced prices or is this just reserved for the club

Write your comments here...Then there is the other thread where it is mostly agreed that a cl price is not excesive at £15 with the rising costs they have to entail and neither of the clubs is emune even as some say with"their buying power"

to pay for our "cheapies"0 -

Haven do not do loss leaders, where have you got this notion from?
At £90 a week on a 75 pitch site with 80% occupancy would give £5400 revenue. Deduct electric two wardens how much do you think is left?
Haven have hit upon a business model which is the same as the Aldi of this world, volume sales without compromise to value/quality.
