Broadway Site
We visit this site at least once a year and is one of our favourite site however after a recent visit we felt that the site was not maintained to its normal standard. The hardstanding pitches were very grassy and bushes were needing trimming. Has anyone
else noticed this as this site is normally spotless and perfect. On a good note however the railway now says it will open in 2018

Yes, we thought that the pitches were rather over-grown with weeds and grass. Not at all 'pristine'.
The grass only seems to get cut about every three weeks and was really long and full of tall weeds when we arrived.
The 'help yourself to fresh herbs' area was full of empty pots / dead plants or herbs that had been left to go to seed.
There was a pile of dog poo on the grass opposite the water / bins area that was left for a couple of days (until MrsH moved it).
I'd quite happily accept all of this (except for the dog poo ), if it resulted in cost savings and therefore reduced fees, but the opposite
happens.0 -
One thing that is not understood by some is that on most site now, weeds on hardstanding pitches are normally now done by contractors who have the necessary documents that are required these days and on sites need to be done at a time when less disruptive
to people ,and as we know this year's weather has been ideal for growth and0 -

Correct.

No, only to use effective weed killers.

I wonder when in the year the contractors might attend to the unwanted growth as reading the application information on these chemicals they should best be applied during periods of stong growth - which will be the same as maximum site occupancy.
A certain other Club has "Camping in the Forest" in its portfolio - pehaps our Club might promote "Camping in the Country" where plants and shrubs are to be expected to be found as that is what the country consists of?

Could be something to do with the weather. I don't have grass, its been replaced by gravel so I can feel at home, just like a Club site I
used some weedkiller the other day and about an hour later it poured with rain so it looks as if my efforts were in vain as none of the plants have died!!!David

We were there last week. albeit only for a one night stop-over on the way home from Devon, but the site looked as well-maintained as ever. We also stayed there on the way out three weeks previously and I have to say I didn't notice anything untoward.

That's what we notice on all our visits to Broadway just how well maintained it normally is but then you will always get some who will comment about things,(grass seems only to be cut about every three weeks) without any evidence,. and stated at a time year when grass grows nearly as fast as it is cut

And I agree, the grass (and the weeds) were growing particularly vigorously.

What!!, Is it another of those stupid H&S rules that wardens can't remove weeds from pitches? It gets worse & worse. with the CC.

Can I ask how long is "long grass" ?
We try to not cut it to short but sometimes the undualtions in the ground prevent this. The reasonwe cut to approx 3inches is to prevent us picking up debris or anything else left behind from members such as rock pegs. Weed killing can only take place when
the weeds are in a growth spurt window and there is little wind or rain due.. As you can appreciate this year weather has been topsy turvy... I hope this makes this post a lillte bit clearer from a wardens point of view?0 -
Then there is another thread somewhere, complaing that wardens do to much grass cutting and it spoils the members relaxation time ,as quoted before the site staff are in. trouble if they do or if they don't ,as the well known cc knockers will jump on any these to grind their ever more becoming blunt axes

Yes, thank you Mark.
But does 3 weeks seem a long time to leave cutting it, at this time of year?
Ian H, I do not know the work pattern at Broadway, but rest assured the wardens will probably have a groundwork cycle. The site might possibly be divided into two halves or maybe 3 sections. The division enables the groundwork to be managed with the least
disruption to the members but also ensuring hedge trimming, grass cutting, weed killing are completed. However, the weather has and will dusrupt the cycle therefore it maybe deemed more important to direct the work load into another direction....0 -
Dont understand the paranoia about length of grass. Is it so high that you need wellingtons? All gardeners will advise you not to cut grass too short thus allowing moss to encroach.Just returned from Brecon- site toally acceptable but not cut to Golf course

As I said near the start, it doesn't bother me at all how often they cut the grass. But it did seem to be less pristine and less often cut than previous visits (when we seemed to hear the sound of mowers nearly every day). But if they have reduced the maintenance,
I would expect to see that reflected in lower prices. Instead, they have increased the site fees considerably.0 -

We have stayed at Broadway a couple of times. on our travels down south. It is a standard CC site. No views except that of other caravans. The site was always maintained to CC standards. Easy walk into the town. Gravel hard standing pitches. It was just another CC site, nothing to write home about. .
It is a good base to tour the surrounding area.
Don't know what else people are expecting.
