Why why don't members stick to the speed limit on site

I'm Sat here watching cars go past doing more than 5mph please slow down and no I don't have young children

Simple because they dont think the rules apply to them.Oh and being a moron helps aswell.

As I said, Surfer - this site (Rowntree) has the park of the same name right next door! And it includes a bike play area.

And yet parents still send their kids off to ride at speed around the very site where this tragedy occurred.

Write your comments here...And if the Warden staff don't enforce the rules, those offenders will continue to ignore the rules.

    Cool

Ian, as you will be fully aware, many one way streets in France have a sign at one end indicating 'NO ENTRY EXCEPT FOR CYCLES'  The French obviosly deem this to be safe why are we so diffferent?

Surfer,    Are we saying that 15yr olds ( children in CC speak) need supervision - 4 yr old yes!

Please guys can we not mention the little lad that was killed on here. His parents may be reading this forum or the person who was in the car. It was a terrible thing to have happened, we don't know all the details and his parents and anyone else involved
will have suffered enough and have to live with this. Please can we keep this general. No I am not a champion and cannot insist, but please.

Some of the 15 year olds are the worst culprits when it comes to speeding around a site.  Obviously their parents do not care what they get up to and also probably never supervised them correctly when they were young.  Any one under 16 years of age should
be supervised from a young age and taught to respect other people and rules.

Well there's the answer to the question on today's other thread "Why don't we see families on CC sites"?

They're probably anxious about being judged if they let their teenage youngsters out of their sight for more than a minute.

At least now we know who do not supervise their children.  I like to think that we were responsible parents and that our children were brought up to show respect.

Having not used commercial sites in the UK, I just wonder how do they manage to control this perceived problem that seems to blight each and every CC site (if this thread is anything to go by) do commercial sites not have children playing on the roads with
bikes, rollerskates, scooters etc. while in France/Spain we saw a number of them playing on all of these and  hover boards and segways, no one seemed to have any issues with that.

Never quite understand the need to speed to"get the best  pitch". CC sites are like the Monaco F1 circuit - virtually impossible to overtake so any given pitch will either be taken or empty irrespective of the speed of your approach.

We've been on a couple of UK Club sites recently ( CC & CCC). It struck me as we drove on these sites that 5mph limits are hard to maintain without looking down at your speedometer when you should be looking out! In France, the equivalent signs say 'Roulez au Pas' - 'drive at walking speed'. We can all judge what walking speed is like.

But if they are like my wife, they will want to check out every pitch befroe deciding on the 'best' so the answer is a qualifying  lap time is required Happy

I think it may be something to do with the layout where there are "dead end" side roads to be surveyed and the resultant chance of being overtaken on the "main drag" and loosing that "best available" pitch.

Do we? Who do "we know" are guilty of this heinious crime? Sad

We prefer to walk the site first to see where we would like to pitch, however quite a few of the CC sites want you to drive around while trying to decide, surely this just causes more vehicles going round and round. Sometimes I walk in front of the van pointing
out possible pitches while OH drives, so I know we are not guilty of speedingWink

TG, We had loads of kids at Sandy Balls over the weekend, but (as cyber mentioned earlier) the site has loads of sleeping policemen and most vanner are respectful of the 5mph limit, meaning that the little darlings dont cause much bother to these drivers....

fast drivers plus loads of kids might have been a bit more hairy....

so, as the thread suggests.....slooooooow is goooooooodHappy

ps, today (tuesday) at Lytton Lawn hardly a child on site, as one would hope on a school dayWink

But sleeping policemen are not liked by some on hereWink

PS not school day here, the little darlings are on holiday.

Can I explain the problem with leaving your outfit at the reception. This Friday we have 88 arrivals, can you imagine the uproar if we let arrivals walk off and find a pitch? But well done for helping us to maintain the speed limit. It is appreciated and
when I see someone driving slowly I always thank them....

Mark, surely part of the problem is that a fixed arrival time will ensure that a glut of arrivals occurs exactly at 12.00 even when the site may be partly empty. A less rigid time would help arrivals to arrive in dribs and drabs

Terry, you are quite right but no matter what arrival time you have, you will get early arrivals. I don't know what the answer is to be honest...

Let them in, it works elsewhere and if there is nowhere for them to pitch they will have to wait.

David, where would they wait and would they also block roads and the largest risk we have to be aware of is traffic v people....

first thank you for coming on and explaining from a wardens point of view.

Others have already come back with how all day arrivals work elsewhere so no point in repeating that.

88 arrivals is a lot to have to deal with in one day, there are some sites that have adopted a policy of allocating a pitch on arrival with the words "if you don't like you can pick another one" of course that wouldn't suit many on CT.

However how to stop speeding is the main issue here, I like the suggestion of 1st gear on site rule myself.Smile
