Tinners......the point I was making, in a way that was apparantly a little too subtle, was that if the wardens are just as guilty of speeding, how can they credibly admonish anyone else for doing the same?

That wasn't the point under discussion at that time, Ian.

    Subtle? As a brick.

How odd. I thought this discussion was about speeding on site.

Well, I tried. You're obviously having another sulky day.

Do you know, Ian, that you....      No, I'll let you work it out for yourself.

Corners has said it all. Now there's a real gent. Watch and learn.

Lots of wardens drive thier tractors at far more than 5 mph. How can they the tell someone off for driving to fast. That would be a case of do as I say not as I do. I must say that I fully agree with the 5mph rule and do my best to stick to it.

Strange comment above, Davetommo.......given that I was agreeing with your earlier comment, attached.

The club should follow the wording of a notice we saw at Cirencester some years back. That said that speeding drivers would have their barrier pass taken back and would have to use the car park until they left. I would give them a two strikes and you are
     out allowance.

As for children riding the wrong way round the site I think that is the safest way for them to ride. When out walking I was brought up to walk facing the oncoming traffic i.e. In this country on my right hand side of the road. That way you can see the traffic
better. A child riding facing the oncoming car or MH will always be safer, how many children have bikes with rear view mirrors.

Only if they are looking where they are going. We nealy ran down a young lad who was riding the wrong way round a club site with his head down looking at his wheels. In fact he rode round and round the site taking no notice of any vehicles and in full view
of the wardens!! Children should not be allowed to use a club site as a racing circuit!!

Isn't it the case that many drivers, whether in motorhomes or towing caravans, simply aren't used to driving at 5mph unless they are following slow moving traffic and so they are unaware of their speed ? I know it's no defence but it may be the reason.

Write your comments here... You're right Freelander it isn't an excuse , all our vehicles have speedometers ,and if you can't read it you shouldn't be on the road .

Of course we are, Tinners Kiss

Anyway, back to the deabate and, oddly enough, I actually agreed with what DaveTommo said. Surely we've all seen wardens dashing along on their tractors at more than the speed limit? That being the case, it would be rather difficult to tell a car driver
to stop doing the same, wouldn't it?

It dismays me that some members seem to think none of the rules apply to them, whether it's speeding, dogs off lead, turning up before arrival time.  The Club should enforce the rules for the benefit of everyone.  One warning and then the culprit should be obliged to leave without compensation.  Just write it in rules so everyone knows.

Indeed Ian. Wardens should set an example. That way they can safely remove rule breakers from the site.

Thats if they want to ensure that the on-site safety rules are adhered to. That would be" All " the rules of course.  No more of that Wardens Discretion.

I agree that the speed on sites should be kept down , but are we also saying that no club member ever goes over the speed limit on the road??? the answer is to drive at the right speed to the conditions

I suspect 8mph is the norm for such machines, JVB.

I try to stick to 5mph although must confess creep over that speed if take eyes off speedometer to look where I am going. What I would like to ask is that site staff should also observe speed limits too. They don't always do so here at Incleboro! And are
    cycles included?

5mph is a really difficult speed to adhere to especially as my speedo really dosent register until 10mph. I just slip her into first and then let the engine idle her way though - i suspect it is about 5mph. i then watch the road for any young kids, dogs etc - i never look at the speedo again - it does seem walking pace.

Most modern manual diesels will do the same, just let the engine do the work while you watch the road..

i would rather someone drive round at say 10mph ,BUT be fully aware of their surroundings than someone driving at 5mph and have their head in the clouds.....

big sign 1 gear only or you will be asked to leave

My estimate of the proportion of drivers who use CC sites who would know what first gear was and could keep their vehicle in it to be around 18% - and most of them will be doing less than 5mph already.

Why why don't members stick to the speed limit on site

I'm Sat here watching cars go past doing more than 5mph please slow down and no I don't have young children

Wouldn't it be ebtter to sit back and enjoy your holiday instead of watching what every one else is doing.  Next you will be complaining about twitchers as that is a serious offence.  Laughing

If you are so worried about speeding on site, why didn't you approach the warden and make a complaint instead of complaining on CT? Is there any one on CT that can physically go and stop any speeding imaginery or not?

I am  not sure why any speedo is required to drive at what is a maximum  of a fast walking pace. Surely we should all be capable of judging this.

<Pedant>In reality a fast walking pace is actually about 3mph rather than 5mph. Most people generally walk at around 2mph.</Pedant>.

Referring Back to BBs post, Sandy Balls encourages 5mph by the judicious use of sleeping policemen and you don't want to hit them any faster than that.
