Speed limit

As MH's are in my experience by far the biggest culprits, the car park would be quite full and the site would be half empty.
Mind you killed two birds with one stone, plenty of availability and no danger of on site speeding.

Once sited all cars should then be removed to an enlarged car park
Will there be a shuttle bus to convey people and goods in the dry and wet dogs in a separate compartment?

As I quoted, in my experience. Of course you two motor home owners have never gone at anything other than 5mph on site and for that you are to be applauded. Always amazes that no one on here ever speeds on site, and yet I am sure we could all quote instances
where that has in fact happened. Let me start. On Broadway site where an old guy in a motorhome was moving along at a fair pace, far quicker than the walking pace in the rules. When questioned his answer was that the engine struggled to move the wieght of
the motorhome unless he went at 20 plus miles an hour. The only sure way he could stick to the speed limit was by slipping the clutch, something he didn't want to do.Oh and Micheal T, wonder what the T stands for? Yes I did but not for the reasons you probably think.

Lots of wardens drive thier tractors at far more than 5 mph. How can they the tell someone off for driving to fast. That would be a case of do as I say not as I do. I must say that I fully agree with the 5mph rule and do my best to stick to it.

As for children riding the wrong way round the site I think that is the safest way for them to ride. When out walking I was brought up to walk facing the oncoming traffic i.e. In this country on my right hand side of the road. That way you can see the traffic
better. A child riding facing the oncoming car or MH will always be safer, how many children have bikes with rear view mirrors.0 -

Why such sarcasm?
Surely solo cars are the worst offenders? And before you pounce, solo cars can be driven by caravanners or MHers.

Since some people are claiming that their vehicle cannot be driven as slowly as 5 Mph (a claim which I don't accept by the way) then the easy solution is---- don't bother coming to CC campsites as you will be breaking the on-site safety rules.
Go elsewhere, -- that will leave pitches available for those of us who can and will obey the speed limit.

Good point.
Surely sites will be well rid of people who apparantly cannot control their vehicle.

The site staff are constantly going around the site for various reasons, but they just seem to turn a blind eye to rule breakers.
So what's the point in people staying on site 'informing' on these people?
On page 1 of this thread a warden has said reported issues will be investigated. That's not turning a blind eye, Ian.
So, are members to flag down the warden as he hurtles past on his tractor, and point out that the car that he just went past was speeding?
Now you're being ridiculous even by your standards, Ian.
There is no need for personal insults, Tinners.
Wouldn't you be better off explaining which bit you disagree with?
Have you never seen wardens exceed the 5mph limit on their tractor? I've seen it regularly on CC sites.
Don't they turn a blind eye? I've noted numerous examples on here, as have many, many people.
I don't expect an answer, because you have made it abundantly clear that you accept no criticsm of the CC.

What personal insult?
I think it is rediculous to suggest that wardens hurtle past as you put it on their tractors, look up any defintion of hurtle and you will find its involves not only high speed but in an uncontrolled manner, The Cambridge dictionary actually includes
the words in a dangerous manner.0 -
Can any of us honestly put our hand on our hearts and say we've never once exceeded 5 mph on site? Really?
I'm pretty careful about following rules and I agree that stopping speeding is the one rule I'd like to see upheld above all others but I dare say at some stage I might have gone over 5 mph, no matter how carefully I drive.
Seems a lot of "holier than thou" nonsense on here, though!

Here we go again! Ian, you suggested members should flag down the warden. Why? There, is an office to go to rather than interrupting someone's work. That is the bit of your post which is ridiculous and I'm not even getting into the hurtling issue.
Your last post is a clear demonstration of your outstanding skill at bending meanings and introducing red herrings. I congratulate you as you have developed it into an art form. Well done, mate, you never fail my expectations of you.

Apparantly we have to report you to a warden, Moulesy.......sorry mate

I do struggle to understand speeding when on holiday with a MH, or towing a caravan. The clue is in holiday. No timetable to be met, other than those desperate to get to the site by 12 or 1 or whatever published arrival time. To then get the best pitch,
whatever that is. I've not seen 'best pitch' mentioned in reviews, guides, on site maps or from other holiday makers. On site when we had the MH it was a case of let it go at tickover in drive, which was 4-5mph. With the caravan the car in drive on tickover is 5 mph. With both of them no need to put foot on throttle, but cover the brake pedal should the need to stop arise
as I understand there may well be people walking out into the road, kids playing, dogs bounding or any other likely obstacles. If there are speeders, the quick kick of a footbal, throw of a frisby into the road should soon put a stop to their idiocy. Moreso when you ask them if they have children, and what if it was a child not footbal / frisby entering the road unexpectedly. Focusses
the mind.0 -
I agree it wouldn't work.
What is needed is for people to follow the rules and for wardens to enforce the rules.
The sites are quite popluar in Holland, families like them as the children are safer, some sites have areas set up like this for families, while the rest of the site park there cars next to the vans as normal.
Thinking about it isn't Bathchew set up like this no cars at the vans, its been a few years since we went and looked so I may be wrong or they may have changed it
Agree with the second part of your post

Tinners......the point I was making, in a way that was apparantly a little too subtle, was that if the wardens are just as guilty of speeding, how can they credibly admonish anyone else for doing the same?
That wasn't the point under discussion at that time, Ian.
Subtle? As a brick.

Personally I dont much like the sites where you cant park next to the van, and motorhomes will still be driving round the site.
On sites where there is storage those are definitely the worse culprits for speeding from what I have seen. Other than that I would say solo cars/cars towing/motorhome are pretty much equal in their numbers exceeding the 5mph.

Yes, Bath Chew Valley pitch your caravan. But it is adults only so no good for family holidays as they don't like kids so
thats a few other 'problems' taken care of. Do they allow dogs?0 -

How odd. I thought this discussion was about speeding on site.
Well, I tried. You're obviously having another sulky day.

Sorry but how on earth can two objects heading towards each other be safer than two heading in the same direction ,with the likelihood of the bikes traveling faster.

Isn't it the case that many drivers, whether in motorhomes or towing caravans, simply aren't used to driving at 5mph unless they are following slow moving traffic and so they are unaware of their speed ? I know it's no defence but it may be the reason.
