As KS says - yes but that's all you can fit on. No room for table or chairs without intruding on the grass strip generally.

but it can't be unreasonable to expect a pitch fee reduction on something that is so inadequate
Steve using your logic would it then not be advantageous to remove all awning pitches so as to cram more in and increase your chances of securing one

To an extent they have done this at Baltic Wharf, where there are now very few awning pitches. However, this is perhaps a special case as if is a small, oversubscribed town centre site. They also did it at old Hartley, where preserving the awning pitches
would have meant a greater loss of pitches on a very popular small site. The only trouble with your logic is, that if you did away with awning pitches to cram more in, at most sites you would loose an awful lot of customers.0 -
Some of the pitches at Crystal Palace are quite tight especially if you're on a corner plot. We didn't use an awning the times we were there we found the pitches small - however, we were not on site that much anyway due to visiting London so not a problem.

But there must be many members who book an awning pitch simply because they expect to get a larger pitch for the same price not because they need it. The common sense approach would be to create a price differential to try to stop this
At most sites the non awning pitches are in the minority, so choosing one means you are likely to have a much smaller number of pitches to choose from, possibly on one part of the site. Any price differential would in my opinion have to be quite large to
overcome this disadvantage.0 -
If you download the Crystal Palace site plan you can see where the non awning pitches are ,its nearly half the site
In that case a price differential could well work at CP, particularly as most will not spend much time on site.
Steve, agreed.....
so if half the site is non awning, half the site is awning (einstein) so, as Steve says, with so many there just to 'see the sights (not the site) why bother with awning pitches at all....this would increase the total bu a few which is always useful on a
site located like this one...again, these high turnover, key sites should really move to a maximum occupancy model....
space robbing awnings arent for tight, expensive, city centre sites....the sad thing is that many will book awning pitches here as they think theyre getting a bigger pitch and then not use deploy one as its too much hassle for a short city break.
We book and pay for awning pitches in the non winter, usually on grass, and depending on the weather decide on wether to deploy the awning. We then further decide wether to pop out to the local distractions or chill on site. Our choice
In the winter we use hard standings, often fully serviced. Not CC sites though as the nearest ones are not open in the winter

re my orginal post about non awning pitches,
when we first joined the cc they charged you for putting up an awning and they also allocated you a pitch on site
but all I wanted to know was can I get my car and van on the pitch or would I have to park the car in a separate area

of course its your choice, as it is for all our members on sites...though there is currently no extra charge for an awning pitch....
i was just stating my opinion that, on the few precious city centre sites in the CC portfolio, they should maximise occupancy....
BW and York are two good examples....id suggest that these along with the London sites were maximised in this way...
however, thats not how it is now, just my view on the subject
Every day is a school day. I just click on the awning pitch get the price, decide if it is competetive, then book or not. Didn't realise there was no awning charge, thanks for the edumacation

..A non awning pitch will allow your car to be on the pitch,
i cannot ever remember a charge for awnings or is it just an age/memory thing

Just as an aside, how many ,when looking for pitches do not scroll down the page past the first dates, without realiseing that other type of pitches are available
When i first joined the club, i fell for that one.....didnt realise there were more sections further on.....
if awning is the top one perhaps members book these not realising....
I scroll through in the hope there might be fully serviced pitches readily available at CC sites, or actually some on CC sites. So far have only found Chatsworth, non awnng, and booked in mid week school holiday July at an eye watering £40+ per night, the
highest we have paid for a pitch anywhere since getting the caravan. We then move on to a commercial site near Alton Towers, serviced at £22 per night over a school holiday weekend.0 -
Doing away with awning pitches could restrict some members choice of sites as they use them for sleeping in. If that happened in London think about how many children would miss out on seeing it. For families camping is they only affordable way to stay in
London. We don't use an awning these days but when we had children I wouldn't have been without one.0 -

...That was my thoughts ,and also might be why some come on here complaining that so many sites are full off peak
