Edinburgh & The Royal Highland Show?

We're off to the Royal Highland Show this year with the caravan instead of doing it the 'train way' last year.  And so staying at the Edinburgh CC site for that weekend.

Without ringing the site first and asking about transport from there to the show, I thought I'd ask here first... 

What do you think we should do? Drive from the site to the show, or use public transport? 

If it's PT, which services do we need to use - that's if anyone on here knows what / which to use...???

    Try the Royal Highland Show website - travel arrangements and bus routes are all there.

    It's a long time since we went, but we visited Royal Highland Show whilst staying at Yellowcraig. Show ground is out by airport, but they might run shuttle buses from park and rides. ET's advice is best, check out the website, or give the site Wardens at
    Edinburgh a call, they may be able to help as well.

    Have a good time, it is a truly lovely and interesting show, the Food Hall is fantastic, lots of freebies to try. Go easy on the Whisky samples though! Almost as good as Great Yorkshire!

    Personally I would drive, but assuming you don't want to would call the warden team on site, Muriel and co are lovely!

    What day were you thinking of going? There's different classes etc each day. Are you interetsted in Beef, sheep, dairy? 

    Dairy Cattle classes are on Friday., though all stock will be in place from Wednesday to Sunday.

    But I realise not everyone goes for the cattle classed

    We went last year on the Saturday only.

    Very early train from Morpeth, then a shuttle bus to the show not far from Waverley station, then vice versa home.

    Done loads of looking / planning so far for transport to the show from the CC site, and it looks easier to drive there.

    This year, we're going to the CC site Friday evening, going to the show on the Saturday again, and home on the Sunday.

    I think we drove there as well, but it was a long time ago. Envy you the weekend, some of the big agricultural shows are great. We love seeing all the different stock, flowers and veg, lovely crafts. We used to show our horse, so used to go to quite a few,
    and always enjoyed the hunter showing classes. They were usually very early, before crowds arrived. I love seeing the pig classes, very fond of pigs! Have a great time!Happy

    I would drive if you are staying on the CC site at Silverknowes -- There is plenty of parking and there is no panic to catch buses or trams. The show is well worth a visit.

    I agree that driving is the best option from the site as to the best of my knowledge there is no public transport between the two places. If the site run a service though it would be worthwhile using it if the times suit you if you do not know the roads.

    Also, we hope to spot any of the people that featured in the farming programme that was on BBC2 a while back, (This Farming Life I think it was called) . Hoping they make a second series. It'll be nice seeing how their livestock's doing again....

    I live in Edinburgh and would agree that driving would be the best option. It is not far to drive with a very direct route, however, public transport would not be as simple. You could walk from the site to the rear and catch a bus to the city centre then
    catch either a bus or tram. I would strongly advise you use your car.

    Just done a route planner on Google. 20 minutes in the car?

    No brainer really. We'll just set off that little bit earlier to compensate for the traffic....

    I went by car last year and a reasonably early start is good I think I got caught out by a Royal visit and related security issues.  Make sure you know where you are parked the parking areas are vast!  Great show. Enjoy.

    Take a photo on your phone with a landmark so you know where you parked Tongue Out

    Which probably relies on having a signal, which is not always the case. I have an app for paying for car parks called RingGo, but our favourite beach car park with the location number emblazenned throughout has no signal. Maps function on an iphone has the
    ability to locate your car, if you remember to log it whilst being nagged/encouraged to get going to wherever you are going there for Tongue Out
