A30 roadworks near Bodmin, help please
I am travelling to cornwall on 19th June and notice on ipad maps that there is what appears to be a nasty run of roadwaorks on A30 near Bodmin. Can anyone help. has anyone done this route lately, is it one to avoid and should I take the A38 option from Exeter.
Thanks in anticipation.

The last two years it has been a real bottle neck in peak season but I had no trouble late last September. Off peak you should not have a problem especially if you use the route in unsociable hours. I would also be interested in an update for this year.

Yes, they are dualling a stretch of the A30, but on a Sunday in June the delays through the roadworks should not be a great problem. Saturdays at the bank holiday weekend were a different story. Whether or not you take the A38 depends on where you are heading for in Cornwall - for Looe yes, for Newqusy no. Have a safe journey.

Hi
Spaking with members arriving at site on both bank holidays in May, the delays due to the roadworks have been around an hour. There seems to be more problems heading out of Cornwall with longer queues.
I have asked for a notice to be put on the website advising of possible extended travel times, not sure when that will appear!
The roadworks are due to be completed by June 2017.

I posted last year in the Road Closure sticky thread about this. We live west of the works and ever since they started have used the A38 rather than risk the jams. That's as much as I can tell you.

We live near there, and travel it regularly. At Bank holiday weekends, and school half term holiday weekends, and summer school holiday weekends we wouldn't even attempt to use that stretch of road, but at other normal times we simply go through at 40 mph as the speed limit signs say.

We travel that route regularly, though not at weekends. I would imagine Fridays and Saturdays would be a problem travellng west into Cornwall but Sunday,, paticularly if you avoid the mddle of the day should be less of a problem. Typically the traffic seems
to move reasonably freely though the limit is reduced to 40 mph on this 4 mile stretch. Whatever you do, don't be tempted to take the A395/A39 option through Camelford and Wadebridge - towing or not that will be a very slow alternative.Hope that helps!

I live in West Cornwall. I had to go to Highbridge caravans in Somerset (and back) two weeks ago. Did it with no problems and agree with eurotraveller entirely.

We travel down to Sennen from west Wales nearly every summer, usually leaving around 8pm on the Friday for both journeys.
Always been an easy run at those times.

I guess it would still be reasonable at those times, Scarletsfan, even with the current works in progress.

Came through yesterday, Wednesday, at about 10.30am coming out of Cornwall no problem, traffic down to 40mph but kept going at that. Went other way 8 days earlier about 1.30pm, traffic slowed to 25mph with the odd stop but all in all quite bearable considerting
the stretch they are doing.0 -
There's less traffic about in Cornwall this week. It was half term last week and very busy. It's always best to avoid school holiday times if possible.
