Miserable or unsociable people on site

There could be all sorts of reasons why people don't say hello, they could have hearing difficulties, learning difficulties or just not have realised you have not spoken to them. To criticise people for this could also be deemed rude and ignorant.
Sorry I can't agree for the most part. I was brought up being taught "manners maketh man". Fair enough if someone doesn't hear me but, let's face it, when your passing someone within inches of each other, looking at them and your mouth moves to me it's
obvious that I'm saying something to them (especially if I'm on my own). In one of my previosu posts I estimated 25% of the people I spoke to over the bank holiday weekend generraly and blatantly looked the other way or totally ignored me. Downright rude.
I don't want to be bosom buddies with them or asked for drinks or to their BBQ I'm being friendly and just saying "hello" or "morning" or whatever. Thinking about this further it's more often than not older people who are far more ignorant than younger ones.0 -
his autobiography by Hunter Davies,
I alway though that AW and HD were 2 different people. Now I'm beginning to wonder.
AW was a misable old git, but he didn't half write great books.

Well as also a rambler meeting people on walks my take is exactly the otherway round, which I and my wife think and often comment on, is very sad.
Our caravanning is mainly rallying and 5 van site use where this situation is almost non existant.

Whenever walking on a club site I would always say hello to anyone I passed but whether they replied was their choice and didn't bother me as already said everybody has a different level of interaction.
Now it's mostly lay-bys and car parks we pitch in and find the clientele more friendly........

Perhaps one of the OP's neighbours suffered with depression. Don't say they are ignorant for not responding to you if that is the case. It is a very debilitating illness and when people are suffering they find it extremely difficult to interact. You can't judge people on a chance encounter and just say they are rude and ignorant. All sorts of things could be going on in their lives. Perhaps as others have said they just needed a time of peace and quiet for whatever reason. Just because I say hello to complete strangers when on a caravan site or out for a walk I am not arrogant enough to expect them to always respond.

Why does the OP think that everyone on site wants to be the life and soul of the party , people are on sites for a variety of reasons ,some for holiday , and some be on site to " clear their head" . We once went away for a week on site when
a family member passed away and needed to just have some quiet time , so OP don't jump to conclusions just because that person doesn't seem to be as happy as you .......I do not recall saying that.

You live in a different world to me. I consider it polite and good manners not to ignore someone who has spoken to you.

Perhaps some people think it is arrogant for a complete stranger to talk to them without being introuduced. Everyone has different interpretations or expectations of 'manners'.

We were in M&S in Stratford today, having coffee on our Premim Club vouchers. The couple two tables away were having a 'birthday tea' that also comes with PC.
The lady mentioned that it was her birthday and we entered into a conversation with them.
They were very pleasant and 15 minutes later we knew where they lived, where they moved from, how old they were, how annoyed they were about the state pension age changes, that they had no children and which charities they had left their money to in their
wills. We knew how they had postal-voted in the referendum (Out......naturally) and the status of their parents. My point is that some people like to chat......others don't
That's life....live with it.

This is all going a bit deep isnt it? Can everyone not accept that to say hello/good morning is good manners and common decency, the talk of depression / not knowing personal circumstances/illnesses / deaths is a too far and does not excuse a simple response, generally
speaking .0 -
I think you just have to deal with the fact that some people do wish to speak to others on site and others don't (for whatever reason) - end of story.

Exactly. i will always be polite however that doesnt make me want to 'socialise' with everyone and anyone. I wish some of our near neighbours on the CC site we were at
over the weekend had been a damn sight less sociable......drinking/rowing/argueing at 1.00 am in the morning......0 -
I don't wear my hearing aid half the time so it may well be me that ignores you, or you may have returned my 'hello' but I didn't hear you, and me thinking miserable old git .......... tis' life

I have said in various posts that the majority of members I meet are ignorant, and the one or two that are not are the sunshine, but it nearly always rains, to the OP do not worry about them, 95% are just ignorant and cannot help it.
