Just returned from a three night break at the Longleat Site. Despite being very busy the site was clean and well presented. Before going I was concerned about the access road, apart from the idiot in the hot hatch who came round a corner too fast, it was
a nice run to the site. Finally, a big thank you to the Wardens.Happy

We went there last year and our thoughts about the site and wardens are the same as yours. Will go back there someday.

We have been to Longleat a few times over the years but the changes to the access road have made us think again. We have had a few near misses with farm tractors and idiots in hot hatches too so we have Deleted User Longleat from our list of sites to visit. A
shame because the site is great and the wardens do a really good job.

Hi all, we have been a few times to Longleat and i genuinly find the access road no problem. the only tight / slight issue is at the top where the houses are, but taken slowly and its fine.

FYI - we visted the site twice over Christmas in 2014 & 2015, and took in the amazing Festival of Lights. The site is quiet, well kept and a great time to visit the park.

Agree with Dan the Light Show is well worth a visit. I have a story of our visit with some photos here  in the story section.

We have only been the once but did not find the approach road too daunting although it does require care.

We went to look at Longleat about a month ago when we were looking for somewhere different to go to after cancelling our trip to Damage Barton.

Considering I was nervous being a new returnee to towing about narrow roads, when I drove down the access road I wasn't too concerned and would have been quite happy to have done the trip.

The reason we didn't go in the end was the restrictions around Longleat when we have dogs who love a long walk. The site itself was lovely.

We are here now, it's a big site but beautifully clean and well maintained. Very friendly wardens too. No problem with the access road, it's not fast, it has a few bends but is not scary. this must be one of the top 5 sites in the UK.

Catherine, I meant to pass on to you, we drove past the Damage Barton site a couple of times. The road from the main road was quite reasonable. A few narrow bits and bends, but no real problem. Same as Longleat really.

Hi Ian,  will give it a go next year.  Funnily enough we are just planning a 9 night break for next Easter and thinking Devon maybe the place to go.  I'm certainly starting to feel more and more comfortable towing the big beastie, although having the ATC
activate for what appeared no reason on the M4 slip road was a stomach churning experience.

We went to the Light Festival last December, and will go again this December. Well worth a weekend away.

Catherine if you book early, there is a super site at Putsborough right on the clifftop. Google is your friend.

We did Easter at Croyde and visited Putsborough for a day.

won't be going again, not overstruck on the access road now, and Longleat seem to have made it as difficult as possible for dog owners

The access road in my opinion is fine, there are a lot worse approaches. What is not fine, if you like walking from the site, is that you are extremely limited unless you have a valid ticket for Longleat. So great for a one off to visit lions, house etc, or perhaps one of the special events. However, not so good as a general stop over, although the site itself is lovely.

The access road is fine......certainly no reason for having an hour gap between departers and arrivals. It takes a few minutes to drive along (not an hour) and any half reasonable driver would manage to pass another vehicle.

A dummy run? Isn't that a visit to Mothercare?

Write your comments here...Putsborough is a terrific site but well away from anything else like a pub or other entertainment and access is via a series of very narrow lanes with some quite steep bits in them too. I would not recommend that anyone with even
the slightest nervousness towing goes there.  Fees are pretty high too.

We have booked to take grandkids to Festival of Lights. First time on club site. Would like to do more winter trips if any ideas would be grateful.

Depends on the age of the grand kids if they will be with you on other trips? The Light Show at Longleat would fascinate most ages. For older kids perhaps the Christmas decorations in Chatsworth House which are usually themed.

Grandkids under 8 years, will not take them every trip but would like them to experience motor homing. Would like sites within walking distance of pubs/Restarant  also sites that we can leave motorhome on site so near bus routes.
