CT'ers may recall a straw poll I did a couple of years back when there was a relatively even split between the 72 hour supporters and those who favoured a longer cancellation period. I am still of the view that five days is a more realistic period to enable
rebooking of a pitch but overall there doesn't appear to be an overwhelming appetite for it.0 -
I do think 72 hours is a bit over generous and certainly if you compare it with the C&CC who charge a deposit and keep it if you cancel within 31 days. Some commercial sites ask for all the fees up front and if you cancel the lot goes.
Wildwood
Surely you and others are missing the point and the clue was in Helen's reply. The Caravan Club want a point of difference between the other club and commercial sites which reflects what a membership organisation should be all about?

Well, David I did miss that - but I find it a very welcome statement. I think it is immensely sensible for the club to offer an alternative to the standard industry model so often quoted, both in keeping facilities basic and in keeping peak prices manageable for families.
Although I still do agree with others that 72 hours is a bit generous!

Very good point, Wildwood.
Since I made that point on page 5 and we are now on page 10, perhaps this thread has run it's course.....??

Just an aside about the C&CC, it's a mistake to assume you will just lose your deposit if you cancel within 31 days.
Last year we'd books their site at Cheddar, a last minute booking and paid the whole fee up front - as it's quite near home we foolishly decided to leave the van in store until the day we were due to go. Sure enough, the mover failed to work and we were
unable to get the van out. So I phoned the site to explain and, more in hope and expectation, asked if we could use thevfees we'd paid tocome on a later date. The warden said the system wouldn't allow this but "ring me back in 5 minutes and I'll see what we
can do". When I rang back he said, "when did you want to come?", booked us in there and then and even apologised that we'd have to pay a bit extra because it was in a higher price band. If you don't ask, you don't get, isn't that how the saying goes?0 -

No, I appreciate the gesture and it does help but I would ask for cancelations a bit earlier.
