TV Reception
Hi. I am new to caravanning and I am after some advice concerning tv reception. I have a 2006 Swift Charisma 560 with a Wing omni-directional tv antenna. There is a AT36 reciever connected to this within the cupboard. When connecting to my TV through the
ariel socket I can get no TV signal.I have gone through all the manuals etc and everything seems ok. Help please

Are you in a poor signal area? Omnis are well known for not working particularly well or not at all in anything other than a good signal area!
This website may help

A caravan club member designed a free app called "freepoint UK" all of the clubs sites are in this app....try downloading this app and see if it offers any helkp on directional and vertical/horizontal positioning

If you go to >this web site< and put in your location post code and aerial height it will give you some idea of what to expect and what aerial is best and where to point it. I think the main transmitter for the Knaresborough area is Emley Moor which is about 30 miles away as the crow flies. My guess is unless you were on fairly high ground, an omni like the Wing might not be good enough at that distance.

I would speak to another member on the site if possible and see what they have found or check with the owner to see if there is a decent signal.
My experience is that in poor signal areas pitch position can even make a difference. I've been on adjacent pitches where one has TV reception while the other doesn't! I now take a DM log aerial with me which I can put up and plug into my booster when needed. Very rarely need it mind but it saves those awkward periods of silence between Mrs SF and me.

I hope you won't feel insulted if I check that you are aware that you need to retune your TV at every site? Also, a directional aerial seems to be a necessity for digital TV unless you are very close to the transmitter.
If you have someone friendly nearby ask if they will check if your TV will tune in in their caravan, that will narrow the problem down to the aerial on your van.
Good luck

Polarity, not a problem with omnis, well it is really! You can neither point them or change polarity.
Some with directional ones get the polarity wrong, sometimes folk copy having just followed what's around them! Look at houses nearby too or the wardens, they may be a better indication.

Many thanks for all the advice. Have downloaded the app mentioned by markfhwest and have got a directional arial. Hopefully will have some joy this weekend at Troutbeck.

There is a booster system on the EHU's at Troutbeck. However, you will require a 25m TV lead. Although there is the cost of the lead, quite a few sites have this facility, so it will not be wasted.
You can buy these on most sites but you will save a lot by getting one before you go.
