Practical Caravan had 13200 votes last year to produce a list of 100 best sites. It's available on line. There are no Haven sites in that list, and, you know what, there are no Club owned sites either. Can 13200 people be wrong?

warare are resonablie new to caravaning, we have been keeping local aka yorkshire and up to now have enjoyed the sites we have visited, most have been private but have a few with cc booked in futer. we both work shifts so when we have a weekend of we book
to go away, haven were doing good deals £18 a night, arrived at our pitch to find we could not put the weekend awning up due to a mud pool in front of the caravan door, could not get the caravan straite as the tilit was so bad, the eggs ran like mad in the
frying pan, the clientel left a lot to be desired fighting swearing,not frendly people at all, never again, over 5o's adult only from now onDid you complain in regards to the puddle and ask for another pitch if posssible ?
Are you saying the pitch was on such a gradient that the jockey wheel wouldn't level the van ?
Again for the fighting etc. Its a difficult position to be in and as I've posted elsewhere having a number to text security/wardens direct to report the issues would be easier.
i was at Craig Tara on Saturday night on a nice level super pitch and there was no anti social behaviour.

We have discovered some really lovely small private sites that have become firm favourites of ours, and generally cheaper than all but the no facility Club sites. We dislike large sites in general, whether Club based or commercial. We browse a lot of touring
websites, and some of the reviews for large sites are real eye openers with regard to how some holiday makers conduct themselves. Not for us, no matter how cheap.0 -
Interestingly, I've done just that - had a look at Morris Leisure at Ludlow. The pictures make it seem very pleasant - large HS pitches around a curve, but with few trees or bushes between pitches - er... just like many of the better CC sites I've stayed on in fact. The difference being that 5 nights would cost me over £160 pounds next month (£33.80 per night). So, pleasant as it looks, I'll give it a miss I think.

I agree 100% with this. Everyone speaks of "commercial" as though that is the only alternative to Club sites and CLs. Small privately owned sites are always our first choice too - here in the UK and overseas too.

For a couple next week on a HS its about £30 per night BUT, did you include £15 per dog per stay (max of 2) and £15 per awning? No thanks

We stayed at Riverside in Bets y coed and found it to be quite nice, centrall to the town and good facilities but a bit expensive. We do like the CC where you can choose a pitch but at ML you re given one like it or lump it, we did ask if it was possible
to move but was told in no uncertain terms no it was too much hassle for them to move other bookings around even though the people had not turned up yet.The facilities etc were all very good thugh from memory, not been to a Haven or Park Resorts (bourne leisure I think) and I think these are best avoided in high season and bank holidays.

That's a very good point. We've found some very good ones and to add to the three examples I gave previously (Ross Park, Waterrow Park, The Old Oaks), I'd include Daisy Bank at Snead. However, they do all work out more expensive, for us, than club sites
at most times of the year.
I ought to add that we're "taking a risk" and stopping at a similar site near Welshpool on our way back from Anglesey in early July - £24 per night including the dogs, don't think Haven/Morris/SB are likely to match that!

Moulesy and Corners, if you want somewhere near Ludlow, I know of a gorgeous CL, not cheap given what you get, but a location, peace and quiet, and walking, with or without dogs, to die for! And a fraction of the cost of the ML site. Need your own facilities

We normally use CC site but we have and do use private sites on occasions and have fournd some real gems. One bad experience that sticks in my mind is about 10 years ago when we visited a site called Home Farm in Burnham on Sea (Haven or Park Resorts can't
remember) the pitches were squeezed together and were concrete also we had footballs/tennis balls hitting off our van every 5 minutes certainly wouldn't go back there again. Manor Wood in Cheshire is a lovley little privately owned site that we use and would
reccomend as is Diamond Farm in Kiddlington near Oxford excellent site with an outdoor pool and an on site bar. So for us if we have been to a private site and like it we will return but in general we only use CC sites or C&CC sites.0 -
I think what this whole thread shows is how the CC sites win out on reliability and consistency. Yes, we've all been on privately owned sites that are better, I dare say even some of the commercial ones are. But there are also some extremely dire examples
of the latter two out there, and often charging higher prices. At least with CC sites you know what you' re going to get and unless you want to spend a large amount of time sitting on site, that usually trumps any other consideration!
