Towing a car in Scotland

We are taking our motorhome (Autotrail Tracker) and tow car round Scotland. Any suggestions for the best route to take from Morvich CC site to Rosemarkie?

    A87 > A887> A82 > A9

    I'm guessing you plan to leave the m/h on site and visit locations by Car.

    No- we will be travelling around by car locally, of course. But we will be towing the car over to Rosemarkie, then up to Dunnet Bay and on along the north west coast

    Agree  with  the  Broons  on  that  !  Unless  you  want  to  go  the  Pretty  ( & MUCH MUCH Longer )  way  !!

    Thanks for the advice. Confirms what I thought.

    What about the best route from Luss to Bunree. Don't  think Google maps realises the significance of the vehicle (s) ininvolved!

    I think youll be stuck with travelling up the A82 which is not brilliant by any means. There are a couple of other threads running in this section about using that stretch of road. It's doable but not for the faint hearted.

    Remember, though, that people tow large caravans on these roads and that is harder than a largish vehicle towing a small trailer.

    Incidentally we've done the far north of Scotland in our 6.4 MH without the need for any secondary transport. Neither do we walk much or cycle. You might be surprised at how well you get on.

    As said the A82 from Tarbet to Crianlarich is doable although it depends what you meet coming the other way.We've met a couple of timber lorries on the wrong side of the road at the tight sections with no damage thankfully.

    The alternative is A83 to Inverary then A819 then A85 then A828 and rejoin the A82.

    As tinwheeler said and why I asked about the car we also have done the North of Scotland in a 7m m/h and just returned after 750 miles touring with a 7.5m m/h and never had any issues getting parked.

    I personally would not tow a car around Scotland especially with such a small van as the Tracker. It will be more trouble than it is worth on the single track roads of Scotland but it is your choice.

    Got to agree that the car might be more of a hindrance than a help.  Parking a van here is not as much trouble as some other areas.  At least you will have no bother travelling to Dunnet bay or across to Tongue. After that the road becomes interesting!

    But entirely doable and people tow T/A cvans over it. Most of the road is two lane now and you can see what's coming.

    Most but not all the roads in the far North are double roads but what I find strange is your route. Why go from Morvich to Rosemarkie to then do the NC500. Why not head up the West coast and do Rosemarkie on the return leg ? Whichever way you do it you will
    encounter single track with passing places in the far North so I hope you can reverse your M/H with car attached as if you pass a passing place, when you should have stopped, some of the locals won't take kindly to it and force you to reverse back to the spot
    you had passed . Good observation is very important on these stretches. Enjoy your trip, whichever way you do it. Kellysmum
