Haven discount

I suppose the simple answer is Haven offered the discount and the club being a club and not a commercial operator passed on the information for those members interested. The club is not a commercial operator but a body designed to promote the hobby and assist
members and even if it appears to be against their interests that is what tehy are doing.0 -
Just looked at Haven touring "special offers" between 22nd july to 1st Sep , from £41 per night
Think I'll give them a miss then! Presumably we'd have to pay extra for the dogs as well!
Write your comments here...think dogd are £3 per night, we have just looked at Haven site Blue Dolphin for next bank holiday £187 for three nights (hardstanding) didnt book
....however, we are having 11 nights over two different H sites in Wales (from Thursday) for £120.
as Fish says, their prices are set up to reflect the client base...families/children making use of loads of facilities on site, hence the lower age charge for kids, theyre the ones using the stuff on site.
for us old gits who just want to use the separate touring facs, away from their peak dates, its a no brainer, we arent their core clients.
however, the cc has no other core client than touring customers, so to not 'get in amongst' those who tour out of season seems an odd decision.
many on this type of thread (ct/ct members) have said that, if cc prices were on a par with the commercials off peak, theyd be more inclined to use club sites.
however, for this (large) group of ur round tourers, cc prices are driving its members into the arms of Haven, SB and the likes of Morris Leisure.
the bonus for these customers is a set of modern, top class pitches and facilities.
ive no desire to see cc raise their peak prices (despite the fact that the market would stand it) merely somewhat bemused as to why it seems happy (nay, encourages with discount incentives) to have its members go elsewhere....
Write your comments here... Agree BB have booked Haven site in Mablethorpe mid September hardstanding super pitch £27 for 3 nights, we only use them when it suits us.

Looking o go to Pembroke for the coast path walks next week .Whereas I can get an Europitch At Haven Tenby for under £8 per night We opt for St Davids CC as it is more convenient to where we want to walk. Despit now being the best time to walk the path there
are 60 pitches ( about50%) available at the CC site.so would more enlightened pricing fill the spaces? We are not tied to one operator and in this case we pay the CC exorbitant price for our stay. Next trip wll be the Peaks but not Chatsworth or Castleton but
NT Ilam. Again half price of Chatsworth in weekdays.0 -
Out of interest, because these Haven deals seemed such good value, I just tried to do a booking for Haven at Tenby. Not sure what a "europitch" actually is but the price of £8 comes up for a "basic grass pitch without electric". For a "grass pitch with electric" it'd be £15.30 a night, just a couple of quid under what we paid recently at Ferry Meadows for a HS pitch. That was just for 2 adults, didn't include the dogs.
So maybe not such a bargain after all, comparing like with like?

Can someone explain why the Csravan Club promotes a discount for members to use the Haven sites. Is this not direct competition with their own sites and the CL network? The offer is here on the web under "mebers offers" and has been featured in the Mag.We
have used the offer this winter and found some excellent Haven touring stes. The one at Hafan y Mor beats the Chirk CC hands down. Next week we can get a grass pitch & EHU in Tenby at £8per night,Compareswith St Davids at £17-50. and that site is half empty. They
even have Super Hard standings at £9 per night. The loss of income to the CC is substantial. All the users we spoke to at Hafan y Mor last week were CC members. Would Tesco offer me a discount to go to Sainsburys?Simple: The CC get revenue from the adverts Haven run in the club mag & when this deal was originally struck the 7.5% discount was no doubt seen as a way to encourage more people to join the caravan club & pay the membership fee as the discount would save
them more than the fee itself. Trouble is whilst the annual fee keeps rising, Haven prices have been falling. Example: we spent the Easter bank holiday at Haven Reighton Sands 4 nights, hardstanding + electric for less than £80 for 2 adults & two kids under
8 yrs old - and that is considered a peak period !0 -
Because of this thread I have checked out a Haven site in Ayrshire.
Looks good - The Touring area is separate from the Statics, the prices are extremely competative except for peak season, when I don't caravan anyway as I like to leave availability for families.
I have a friend who lives a couple of miles from that site so will ask him to pop in a have a look.
The photographs and the facilities look excellent.
Would never have thought of going to a Haven site until I read this thread. It now looks like I will give Haven a try.

I'm not knocking it BB, sounds great. But how far in advance did you have to book, because I certainly couldn't get anything like that deal when I looked this morning.
BTW we know Perran Sands well, never stay there but often walk through off the dunes. (We have a static up the road in Goonhavern) . Don't know what those pitches are like at the start of the season but they must deteriorate quickly from what we've seen

I was trying for 5 nights, just got the two prices above. But I've just realised I may have misunderstood what they meant by tourer length on the online booking form. I entered the shipping length for our van (6.11m), will try again with internal length
and see what happens!0 -
Yes, that was the price I got for a grass pitch with EHU, actually I thought it was £76.50, but that' s by the by. But for about £3 more I can get a HS at Cirencester Park. Dearer, yes, but not the stark difference that's been suggested.
Anyway the weather looks set fine and Ten by is a very nice spot to be in so enjoy your stay there!

What have I started, more people trying the opposition; To get the CC promoted discount you need to book by phone and quote your number. We have now got a better offer direct from Haven-an additional 10% off once you have booked two visits. As someone said
until you try it you wont know.I dont think there is a negative post on here from someone who has actually tried the opposition. If you want to see negative look at the recent post on "Wardens in Hiding" at a CC site.0 -
Perhaps the reasoin Haven - Temby is full this week end is because we have just booked St Davids for Saturday.Pitch alone £6-80 plus £6 per person-£18-80 instead of under £8.You only get a grass pitch as St.Davids, thankfully the weather is reported as being
dry. By the way the site is only half full this week end. Says it all.0 -

Haven is not always such a good deal. For early June I was quoted £22 for a pitch at Tenby plus extra for a dog. I have booked St David's as a solo and it is only £12 for the pitch and no extra for a dog. There are going to be a group of solo campers there,
leaving Haven to the couples and families.0 -
And that's what some of us have been trying to point out, B. Undoubtedly there are some great deals at the likes of Haven/SB/Morris at this time of year and good luck to those who are able to take advantage off them.
But the club adopts a slightly different pricing strategy - look ahead to the main holiday periods and, by and large, the club fees are better. If the club could find a way of offering deals at this time of year without whacking up the prices later on, it'd
be great, but I've a feeling some are so set against the CC that still wouldn't use the sites even if that was the case!0 -
Harsh maybe BB, but given that the CC is never going to be in a position to offer £8 a night deals, and the fact that these other sites are so superior, why would folk who have discovered these sites come back to CC sites?
Anyway, I notice that several pages back I said I'd made my "last words on the subject", so must learn when to keep my big trap shut!!!

I totally agree that £8 per pitch is not sustainable but a more resonable "Off peak" pricing would no doubt attract us back, particularly in Winter where CLs are closed. The club only seems to have one pricing policy. Increase the prices accross the board
by more than inflation (( Ithink someone was worked out 2016 increases at 8% and extend the Peak Period dates)> It wont longer work and thats the basis of this thread not an all out attackon the club.0 -
I disagree with Moulsey. ----Im sure most CC customers would be delighted to use CC sites during off peak periods if the charges were reduced to a sensible industry standard amount.
There is no point in having sites open with empty pitches, much better to earn income from those pitches at reduced rates.
