Journey Time - Durham to Scarborough
Hi. I'm wondering if I could get to Scarborough afterwork (around 5pm). I live just south of Durham. I assume the quickest way is to head towards Teesside and then follow the A171.
I wondered if more experienced caravanners could give me an idea of how long the journey will take when towing and at 5pm on a Thursday (I know it's the worst time of the day but if it's feasible to set off then it will give us an extra day on site.)

We dd Washington to Scarborough a few week ago, on the way there we went down to York via A19 then up, took about 2 hours 40 minutes. On the way back we took the road to Whitby then on to the A19 and back took 2 hour and a 10 minutes. This is from near our storage near Fencehouses.
The slower bits are round York ringroad, lots of stops and starts. The Whitby route is quite good (double decker buses do the road to Whitby)

you should have plenty of time going the whitby way but watch the sat nav will try and turn you off the main road just nort of the town. This road is not very good for caravans as can be quite tight with parked vehicles. Just carry straight on down to traffic
lights and turn right following the Scarbourgh signs. I used this road every day with an artic wagon so is fine with caravan.0 -
