Nice site although pitches are tight and not much grass! The area is lovely! Qwirky pub at Worth Mattravess, steam train a very short walk away, nicetown at swanage best got to by the steam train, plus stay on train and go to Corfe Castle.  Very nice beaches..
I love the area! Going back soon for 10days! Enjoy!

There is a glimpse of the sea from some of the top pitches and some nice local walks, you can walk to Corfe Castle across the fields, Corfe has a ruined castle and nice old buildings. The site itself is a bit cramped in places but a good base for the area.
Swanage has Durlston Country Park, lovely coastal walks from there. You can also visit the rspb Arne reserve for free with your CC card, even dogs on leads are welcome there, it looks over Poole Harbour and is worth seeing. The area is known for stone quarries,
there is a good local museum up the road from the site in Langton Matravers. There is a shop there and also at the service station as you turn into Haycraft lane from Corfe. The village Vivien mentioned is an old stone village and is very attractive too.Smile

One of our favouries but in great demand so difficult to get worthwhile visits where planning can't be done for the first booking day.

We are at Haycraft at the moment - lovely site if you can get on !  As previous poster says, pitches are a bit small but worth putting up with. The lane between the village hall and the site is getting to be in a poor state of repair so take care. Lovely
beaches nearby and Swanage is a quaint quirky seaside town, with a brilliant fish & chip shop !!

Not my favourite site. The lower pitches are so short the rear of the van was almost on the rocks making it very difficult to wind the steadies down. Also you may be asked to park your car in the top car park if it strays onto the grass at all. We will certainly
    not be returning

Took a look at it once but not for us.  We much prefer Ulwell Cottage on the road to Studland. Very nice family run site with some stunning views. Walking distance to Swanage and all its facilities. (Beware there is a naturist beach half way along Studland
Beach. Some very interesting scenery along there shall we say in the summer months......)

Oh dear, OH is panicking now!  We are booked at Haycraft for a week in June, first visit to Dorset.  Large twin axle and an awning.  From reading comments here, can we expect to be rather cramped? Hope not.

No don't panic, you'll be ok, it's only a small site so it seems a bit cramped. Nice grass area if you like grass. Have a good holiday, it's a lovely area. Smile

I wouldn't be happy if you couldn't park your car with your outfit.

You needn't beware. They don't bite. My favourite down there is Ridge Farm (C &CC affiliated)just outside Wareham. Pleasant walk along the banks of the River Piddle from Redclyffe to the shops and pubs of Wareham.

We booked into Haycraft last September but the booking was cancelled because the site was partially flooded and the warden said he couldn't tow us off if we got stuck. Trying again in June so fingers crossed.

Been going to Haycraft for the last 3 years, really lovely site, never had a problem with pitches apart from last August when the only pitches left were on the grass and had been raining alot, wardens even had to canel some peoples bookings. Great site.

as above, Ullwell for us....easy walk into Swanage, nice cycle ride to poole/bournemouth via sandbanks ferry....nice walk to Corfe castle over the downs....

Write your comments here...very expensive though compared to CC, 31.50 on 16th June compared to 23.40 at HAycroft for 2 people.

You're paying for location. It's the nearest camp site to Studland beach. I love the "Caution - free range children" sign as I drive past.

Those on the top road, but you will need binoculars as it is a fair distance away. Lovely site though.

Just back from Haycraft today, it's one of the best small sites that the Club have, the wardens are fantastic. We were on pitch 53  with great views all the way across to the Isle of Wight. For views you need pitches 49,51 or 53 but these are all on grass.
    Enjoy
