Moreton in the Marsh
We stayed at Moreton in the Marsh between 15th to 19th April. The first thing to say is that I have every sympathy with the site wardens in trying to keep the site looking presentable in the wet weather we experienced during our stay, including overnight
snow. Having said that, the pitches are looking quite tired and in need of refurbishing with a fresh layer of shingle. Because the pitches are so small, if you have an awning erected, your car has to be parked in front of the caravan . This makes the general
appearance of the site very cluttered and scruffy. If I wanted to sit looking at my car, I might as well park up in my garage. We didn't have an awning on this occasion, but because the pitches are so small, when my car was parked alongside the caravan, ie
where the awning would be, I couldn't help but park partly on the very wet grass surrounding the hard standing pitch, resulting in further damage to the grass. A further problem as a result of the narrow pitches, was that when people parked in front of their
vans, by necessity, unless they had vehicles that could go sideways, they couldn't fail but to run over the corners of the grass areas surrounding the hard standing area. As previously said, this generally made areas of the site into a scruffy quagmire, when
if the pitches were of sufficient width the grass areas could be totally avoided. I cannot understand why the club make hard standing pitches so narrow, unless it is to maximise revenue by squashing the vans in. I know there are fire regulations to insure
a certain spacing between vans, but why make this a minimum spacing. Let's spread out a bit, save the grass areas and generally make life on site a more pleasant experience for all rather than turning the roads into a car park. As I said at the start, my
comments are in no way a criticism of the site team. I think their job is made unnecessarily difficult due to the site layout, in particular the narrow pitches. I would love to hear from the club as to why we are all so squashed in!!! In addition throughout
our stay the wifi was not working, yet again!!! Problem with the server we were told?????

We've been to M-i-M a few times and like the area very much, but agree that the pitches are quite narrow. However, in our case, with a MH, that doesn't bother us.
Problem is, it's a popular site, and if pitches were refurbished and enlarged, it would only result in less pitches, and therefore even more difficulty getting a pitch.

We often go to Moreton and have done for years, as we have relatives near by and I was brought up in the area. Lately we have noticed that more pitches have been squeezed in. But for us the main problem is as pmd1 says, the pitches need to be 're shingled.
The last few years we have found that as we step out of the door all the clippings have gone and we step onto a muddy space, taking the mud back into the van. Also the right side of the site is known to often have flooded pitches, with little gravel on the
pitch when the water does drain you are left with mud all over the awning floor. As you say not the wardens fault but the CC does need to pay out to 're gravel Moreton pitches.... soon!0 -
The CC do not make pitches smaller. However, when the CC purchased these sites most had narrow roads and narrow pitches. Most tourers were a 2 berth with an Austin 1300 pulling it. Since then everything has grown at an alarming rate...

The narrow hardstandings were laid several years ago now when the site was virtually totally refurbished and lost most of its grass pitches.
The narrow pitches you talk about are one of the reasons we now dislike for want of a better word, this site. It would appear the club at the time cashed in on the popularityof the site and crammed in these pitches and gave it such an unattractive appearance
in the areas of these pitches.Since that time the club now seem to only laydown the much larger hardstandings on site redevelopments and may well have learnt lessons from this former practice.

We were on a site last September in the south. Caravanner parked his car across the front of his caravan to make it easier to come and go. Motorhomer on the pitch next to us reversed his motorhome into the car. Fortunately the motorhomer was respecting the
5mph limit so he experienced a broken light and the new car was slightly scratched. All sorted out amicably. I am surpsied this doesn't hppen more often.0
