What I like about Caravan Club sites

I know what to expect, no nasty surprises.
....say that once you've pitched up next to certain posters on here!!
if it's got an awning it's not Ian
If the occupant is kissing the ground, it'll be Corners.....
I only do that on arrival, just outside the reception. I tried kissing the warden inside but if its male they can get offended.

I'm sure on most sites we have all seen the odd caravanner lingering in and around the Warden's office metaphorically tugging their forelock and bowing to every warden whose eye they catch..
I do often wonder why they are not enjoying their holiday like the rest of us.
Strange how reading through some posts on this thread reminds me so much of those people. I won't elucidate which posts.
I can only think that they are so excited by the possibility that they would be the first to be granted a few hours "pitch squatting for free" by the warden on their departure day that they don't care if they
enjoy their holiday or not.Very sad people, if that's the case.

Warden spotting is akin to Eddie Stobart spotting, now't wrong with a bit of autograph and a photoshoot near the reception

I take a similar view to BBoy, with the CC you know what you are getting however there is a significant number of commercial sites which leave the CC standing with their 'offer'. There are also some ropey commercial sites too.
I would would agree, but how do you find good non CC sites? I use the club as it will always be to the usual high (good) and always consistent. Trying non club sites is always a risk, for me anyway

I have only used one non CC site and that one had 'tenters' breaking the branches off trees in the entrance lane for the fires being lit in the evening, no designated ways so everyone took a straight line to the amenity block. No, not for me, much prefer the standards expected and given at a CC site.
As said I'm sure there are some goodun's (non CC sites) but how do you know, reviews help but I could have a good stay and just been lucky.

Yes, that's precisely why we only use commercial sites which we've already been to and know are good, or ones which have been personally recommended to us. Too often we've turned up at commercial sites which look fantastic on their website but are quite
different in the flesh.Notable exceptions, for us, are Waterrow and The Old Oaks in Somerset and Ross Park in Devon, all first class, though all are a bit pricey if you're not getting one of their special deals

But you must have took a chance on a commercial site when you booked the first visit to now know they are good.

I regularly use Non- CC sites. The site in Braemar is excellent as is the site at North Ledaig.
There is nought wrong with Private Sites. They can be as good if not better than CC sites.
K
yes they can, no one disputes that, but club sites are consistently good
BTW Braemar was a club site

yes but too risky for me BB, holiday time is precious even for someone like me who has way above the standard 28 days. I book a weekend at some non CC site and I don't like it? I am not bothered about the money, its the holiday that has been wasted.

I like the Club sites purely because of the good standard of the full site and it’s consistency generally throughout all sites, although I have only ever camped on Club sites for around 90
nights in the past 3½ years at the most. The thing that I feel really lets the Club down big style, considering it is such a main camping club with the biggest online facility I understand in the world for such an organisation, is the lack of detailed information
readily available online for members to access. I know it is called the Caravan Club but many members use motorhomes too and tents so the lack of information about access to things in the immediate area for those without a car is very poor. For example it will say public transport available within 1 mile but no mention of which company operates that service let alone a link to their website and timetables. No indication if it
is a regular bus service 7 days a week or one every blue moon.No mention of the nature or distance to local shops to be able to buy provisions during your stay, particularly important when touring and this is supposedly a touring club.
It will say the nearest cycle path is 3 miles away as an example and reference to the Sus trans organisation but no mention of any cycle paths, or not, from the site. Let aone any idication
for how safe the roads are to cycle on, or walk in the absence of footpaths or lighting. No mention of public footpaths from the sites to get to any facilities, like those mentioned above.
I do think all these things should be readily available online in the site information and be part of the format of information provided not left to an individual site description possibly
including any reference. It should also be included in the negative so we have a full picture on what to expect there.Instead you have to do all the homework yourself and this can take quite a long time, especially when touring, consulting perhaps google maps, google earth street view bus companies, train
companies etc. etc. If the Club just did it once for every site then at least it would be readily there for all to see. Not everyone has a car or wants to drive or the ability or inclination to use the internet to find such information out.I know some on here may well say that finding these things out is all part of the fun of planning your holiday but I really do feel it should be provided there for all to see from the outset.
Some sites have poor internet reception, and as we all know it is not always available, so when you are touring and have not chosen your next site to stay what do you do then? Take pot luck? But why should you have to do this in this modern day age of advanced
internet based information being readily available, it should be there on the Club site about what the Club is offering its members, or are we all not important enough. Perhaps someone at the Club may see this and take the suggestion to move forward on board.
Fingers crossed. Regards, RoyWrite your comments here...Google earth and Google are your friends, you will find most of the answers to your questions there.
K
Exactly. Many on here expect to be spoon fed

Corners you certainly wouldn't want to be where BB is now come August!

Without exception I will use a CC site by default if there is one in the area I want to visit. I'm not adverse to using private sites either, but I like the peace of mind that a club site will offer.
I'm also a fan of the extremely flexible booking system and my plans change regulary.

I like the fact that I have yet to bump into anyone whingeing about the facilities on site unlike a few on this forum Am I just lucky?
I also agree with BB re Haven. We have tried a few now with our grand daughter and feel that the facilities are excellent and the price is excellent value especially out of season. 7 nights at Thornwick Bay for £54 is available for example with the buy
1 night get 2 free offer.0
