Wifi day 2

after a lovely day in Dartmouth, returned to hill head about 4.30 and spend 25 mins getting on wifi. Now I'm not being funny but to charge £10 for a service that you are not delivering on is cheating the members. Ok if it was free but not if you are taking
money for a service that is rubbish. Great sign up at reception that said that wifi doesn't work on all pitches which is a bit bloomin late when you've made camp and would have been good if the staff had said that the fully serviced pitches had hopeless coverage.
Gotta say the dear old CV needs to get its act together as running sites in 2016 is a bit more complex than making sure the toilets are clean. Would love the club to contact me over this as I think I should be reimbursed my £10.

Although you have my sympathy Jem, there have been loads of threads bemoaning the wifi on CC sites on CT. Why anyone would bother paying for it in the first place is beyond me!

Sad. Use left and right arrows to navigate.

We subscribe to the yearly tariff for the  club wifi and although as M says there are plenty of moans on CT, we have generally found it OK. In fact we have subscribed for the last two years and will renew again this year.  It does depend on what you want you use it for however, band width is not sufficient for things like face time. You are able to use the CC web site and CT without paying, not much good to you I'm afraid, but to anyone else I would advise to try before you buy.

We have had cc wifi on ann subsciption for two years including Hillhead and if used for what it is designed for has not been a real problem, apart  from when it is being overloaded by people thinking despite info to the contrary ,they can use the available
band width the same as at home, and where we live thats not good either

You can check on the Offcom website to find out how good mobile and broadband reception is in any uk area. This might help in deciding whether to pay for CC wi-fi or use another method. Unfortunately the southwest is not up to speed in many places.Frown

Nothing on earth would persuade me to part with my hard earned cash in exchange for site wifi.

Have a look around the board at other threads on the subject, Jem. Club Products and Services is a good place to start - see the sticky.

Do you go round the site checking what everyone is doing on-line?

We paid a yearly sub, will not be buying it agian.  Very very poor service, Brings back memories of the old dial up days.  Hit button, go make tea, drink tea, read book, page half loaded, get frustrated, turn off laptop.

    Happy Days!

Try before you buy is not the panacea that might be imagined. Wifi may be satisfactory on one pitch on one site but the experience on either another pitch or another site could be vastly different. Having shelled out for a years usage based on a good experience
could result in wasted money for the rest of the year depending on where you go.

I must be really lucky then.  I have paid for yearly access for the last two years, and with the exception of Chatsworth, I've not had a problem and will renew again.

Its value for money will of course depend on how often you make use of it. For us it works out at about 25p a day. So fairly reasonable, even if there are a few days when it is unusable.

we also booked a yearly wifi subscription and had on all visited sites connection, but mostly slow data transfer.

... on campsites in other countries ( D / F/ NL / DK)  it is not even better, but often free of charge...

I wouldn't buy it - seems to be far more trouble than it's worth.  I have a 4G phone and, apart from a few sites where mobile is bad (Clumber for example) I use it as a hotspot and tether to it. Best 4G is at Chatsworth.  Middle of Derbyshire and it's excellent.

I would agree with mbee1  i use a 4G dual sim phone with ee and 3 networks and the only place i have not got coverage was clumber(where by the way the wifi is also useless, not the clubs fault though as the external BT connections are to slow)

There are still lots of gaps in the 4G network, people with good mobile and broadband connections forget that there are parts of the UK which haven't been upgraded. Check out the latest details in advice and information (wi-fi) under UK Holidays for updates to the CC network provision.

I think this is generally when you are paying off the phone as well. It certainly was with us, drops dramatically after 2 years. Unless of course you always want the next generation phone. However, as you say £25 a year is good value.

We were expecting a resonable service for a reasonable fee.  CC have failed.  We were not looking to download movies or play games - just some web activity.

I am not expecting my fibre optic service, but am expecting to use a wifi service.

I did read the info - did not see the para's stating:

"likely to not be able to log on"

"if you do get logged on - page will take minutes to load"

" system will tell you, "access denied you are alredy logged on" When you are clearly not!

Was not expecting this - please feel free to point out the para sections stating this; I clearly missed them!?

I would be interested to know, if you have experienced this on a lot of sites. As it is certainly not our experience. Service will obviously depend on the number on site and the time of day. I find most problems are at a weekend, when the sites are at capacity.
Usually about 4 / 6pm when they come back from the day out. Later on at 9 / 10pm is usually a lot easier.

...The problems that you seem to have had are just what is expected  (I was advised) when i queried the same probllems ,the bandwidth that is available is being used to its capacity,by inconsiderate use by some doing what is asked not to do on a very busy site, but i have only had the problem a couple of times,

Ps I am at home and my tinternet is what i think is called"buffering"Undecided
