I can see cc sites getting smaller, all hard standing, used by motor homes, gated and private full of boring old farts
if they get smaller, no problem.
if they are all hard standing, I'll be off.
ive got a caravan
gated and private, okay by me
full of boring old farts

Being in the 'older' bracket I thought I should give a view on holiday times. Like many other grandparents my wife a I have for many years helped to look after our two grandsons after school hours . We feel committed to this and therefore take holidays when
the schools our out. The boys go away with mum and dad in their caravan while we go in ours. We also take the kids with us when the parents have to work. Re the Easter week end, I think it worth noting that in many areas the schools now have two weeks holiday
at start of April and therefore many families will have week of two holiday. As for an extra facility on site I would like to see a drying room for outdoor wear. This would be useful for all ages.0 -
We felt positively young at Chatsworth over Easter. Very few children - lots of older couples.
Write your comments here...and it is going to get worse or better, depends on your point of view, the one thing I also notice is that the younger element do not complain about lack of wifi... They just use their mobile phone, until this "club" embrace's
a younger element it will continue to slowly decline.0 -

In what way would you like to see the club embrace the younger element? If it is to put pools and bars on their sites, this will actually discriminate against lots of young families, as costs, particularly in peak would have to increase to cover the investment. Also as you said above you don't use CC sites, where is your evidence that the young just use there mobiles come from. Several sites that we frequent don't even have a phone signal, let alone 3 / 4G.

Very true, Steve, while growing up ( middle to late teens) no matter where we were, no matter shivering in the Lakes or by the pool abroad, no matter how beautiful or interesting, if it didn't have a 'signal' or wi fi - it was 'pants'

I've often thought that if you're going to choose sites on the ability to get phone, wi-fi and TV, you might as well stay at home. But back to the point..... When I first started out motorcaravanning, it was a pretty cheap way to have a holiday. I had
a cheap van and site fees were reasonable. Now IMO, that is no longer the case. Vans and caravans are expensive especially when you add fuel costs, tax, insurance, servicing etc.. and on top of this, site fees in summer can be prohibitively high.
At the same time, budget airlines offer no-frills travel and hotels at affordable costs. I think that caravanning on the whole has become more expensive and that is what is putting the younger generation off.

If the club wants to atract the younger element they will have cater for them, but the club does not cater them so you will not get many join the club, go on a few commercial site and you will see different age range.
p.s. it is not all about pool and bars

If you use club sites at off peak times it is understandable that people think that younger people aren't buying and using caravans.
They are but CC sites aren't particularly attractive. It's not the price or the facilities, it's just a general feeling that the CC is for old people. I doubt that the CC will overcome that perception however many colouring competitions or cuddly toys they
have available in reception0 -
One of the nurses at our GPs would love to have a c/van,but at the moment the family have a frame tent and with all the costs that they have,it will be some years as she saysbefore they "join the real tourers" as they have no room at home, and share a smallish estate car and little trailer that the tent and bits all fit in,both children are in nursery, they still get away as often as possible and use Ferry Meadows as it is ideal for them and are going to Hillhead in august with his parents who have a c/van

I would be interested to here your views on what the club could do to cater for them that would not increase prices?

...So whats diferent about comercial sites in peak times apart from the mostly higher price than the two major clubs

You haven't got the risk of a older element looking down there noses and being judgemental every time your kids make a noise.

Well we could start at the top, the image as seen by the public,
who do the c&cc have and who do the cc have, the club has to start engaging the younger element, and a younger image would be a great start, camping pods for families on every site at no loss of pitches, but hey nothings going to change so why bother talking

Where we live its a real problem at times to get decent tinternet ,and two of the mobile phone networks signal are non existant,so its not just the cc sites that its a problem
We're the same. The only way we can get either phone or internet is to go upstairs, and we live on the edge of a largish town and not out in the country. T'is a BL**dy nuisance.

I do object to this stereotype of the older person. In my opinion it is far from typical. I certainly have no problem with kids enjoying themselves and yes making a noise. If they were kicking a football against the side of my van that would be a different matter.
