Late night arrival Plymouth area

Hi everyone,

Can anyone suggest a site in the Plymouth area that will accept us at around 10.,30pm. We will be docking at Plymouth at 9pm from Roscoff and need somewhere to pitch up. CC site at Plymouth Sound can't let us on at that time.

    Phone Riverside Caravan Park  in Plymouth on 01752 344122 and see whether they accept late arrivals from that ferry.

    Doing the reverse journey i.e. leaving Plymouth early in the morning - 8am?  I was very happy with quite a few other vans and MHs - camped at the dockside.  Not sure if you can do that in reverse but I don't see why not.  I called the port before I did it.   It's worth remembering that your fridge won't run on gas (or several won't) while still plugged into the car electrics my neighbour was going round desperately trying to find out why his fridge didn't work while his wife was hiding!  I debated whether I should mention that he was still plugged into the car as I knew mine didn't work plugged in.  Wink  I ventured to say that my caravan fridge didn't work on gas when plugged in!  Hey presto!

    Yes,  you can stay within the ferry port area at Millbay - free going outwards if you line up at the Brittany Ferries check ins to wait for the early morning ferry, but £10 coming homewards if you park in the pay and display area.

    Glad you are sorted, Dave.  It's surprising that the Club has a site at a city with a ferry port but doesn't offer site arrival / departure times to co- ordinate with the ferries, isn't it.

    I think if you phoned the wardens at Plymouth Sound they would make provision at the back of the site but the site isn't as easy to reach as Riverside.

    Riverside would get my vote. Many ferry users stop there. It's easy to access both from the City and from the A38 whereas the Plymouth Sound CC site is off the beaten track and ongoing roadworks/closures in that area are causing traffic hold ups.

    I did speak to the Warden at Plymouth Sound but he couldn't help as he is off work when we arrive. I have however booked Riverside, so all is good. Thanks Eurotraveller. I agree, the club site would and should be made available to members as they come off
    the ferries. Maybe they just don't have enough room.

    The club site is single manned and has no barrier so you could just turn up and pitch but it might not go down very well with the warden or your neighbours if they are in bed.

    As already said the Plymouth Sound club site is off the beaten track, adding a further 8 mile to the end of your journey and then the return back to Millbay.

    There is a site at Smithaleigh just off the A38 between Ivybridge and Marsh Mills, might be worth a punt in the future.

    As for me half hour drive and Iam there!

    It really isn't a convenient site to use for the ferry, DH. Miles out and access is not good. It doesn't lend itself to being a 'ferryport' site.

    It's only 20ish miles from Riverside to Ashburton and Parkers Farm, FG. I'd do that in preference to Plymouth Sound especially in view of the roadworks and traffic congestion heading out towards Plymstock way.

    I used to live a few hundred yards from Riverside.

    HI we live in plymouth riverside caravan park is so easy to use for overnight stay for the ferry . Plymouth sound is a lovely site , but the roads from the site are narrow , also laira bridge  is heavily congested  most of the day
