    Greetings all. I and many many others raised this months ago and got a slap from the CC over my attitude to people who book loads of sites on the 'crazy monday' when the CC open their lines for bookings only then to cancel a few days before the date without
    any penalties. Why can't the club operate like commercial sites and take deposits which are non refundable? that would sort the selfish lot out in one go and bring some sense to this nonsense. If enough members request it then surely as a 'club' they need
    to listen.

    But would enough members request that?  I think you are contradicting yourself somewhat: if what you say is true, and lots of members are guilty of booking "loads of sites", then cancelling, then all those members are not going to request that deposits are taken, are they?

    I think the problem with a deposit is, you would have to make it large and subject to forfeit, for it to have any affect. Not even all the commercials do that. Morris Leisure  for instance, although charging a large deposit, if 48 hours notice is given this
    can be carried over for a year against a future booking, at any of their sites. So the CC could well loose business, I am not sure they would vote for that.

    As to wether they should be called selfish, that depends on the reason for the cancelation. I am sure some members do see the 72 hr cancelation as a right, to be used as and when they desire. As to CC Members not being in favour, I would think the  numbers and general demographic of those who post on CT hardly a fair sample.

    ....sorry Steve, bit early, that went right over my head.....

    why does holding on to a deposit to a later booking mean the clubs will lose business....the vast majority of club members ONLY use club sites and therefore the cash would remain within the club.....

    im going to weymouth shortly....East Fleet AS for a couple of nights.....£20 a night (ouch...) and i had to pay the total of £40 at the point of booking.....for a week, £140+ up front....

    id have to think far harder about 'the weather and its foibles' before cancelling than i would with a no deposit system...... 

    The point I was trying to make BB was that if the CC wanted deposits to be effective they would have to be large and forfeit if you canceled. If they did this whilst others in the market place operated a more relaxed policy, such as ML, they could loose business. Clearly if the CC just did as ML do, little would change.

    Thats fair comment Steve but i would be willing too bet that the vast majority dont want a deposit system.We cant call people selfish for useing a system the way it is designed to operate in other words they are working within the current guidelines.Now
    those that think it is their right too arrive early and expect to be let in no question is what i would call "selfish".Now reasons for cancellation can be many fold but i dont think anybody has the right to criticise unless those reasons can be proved too
    be dubious and thats near impossible wether we like it or not.

    Since the CC dropped the deposit system booking has been much more straightforward and the ease of use makes CC my first port of call. I know others feel the same. The only times I've cancelled bookings have been due to illness and paying a deposit would have made no difference. Anyone paying a non-refundable or non-transferable deposit is more likely to leave cancelling until the very last minute, instead of 72 hours beforehand, as they'd have nothing to lose and that could affect others trying to book.

    +1 TW, also as they have paid their deposit and will lose it many did not even bother to cancel, hence the higher number of no shows before the no deposits system was introduced. This was discussed with actual figures given in both the club magazine and
    the chirman's annual report some years ago.

    Agree, the ease of booking is the main reason we use mainly CC sites.

    Any total cancellations (2 I think in the last few years)  we have made have always been several weeks, or even months, in advance and will not have deprived anyone of a pitch.

    Altering bookings (either dates, sites, or both)  is something we have had to do more often, but again always many weeks before the booked date.

    Good point, Corners. It is likely to result in more no shows.

    Don't you mean the ease of cancelling and changing bookings. It is just as easy to make bookings with the C&CC and many other sites with online facilities. What is not known is how much the C|ub is losing because those who want longer bookings, which includes a weekend, are choosing to go elsewhere. That might show up in the average mumber of nights booked by members?

    Yes, I am including all aspects of the booking process, the ease of changing  things is an important advantage as far as we are concerned.

    However we do not book/cancel on a whim.  Or go away for less than a week.  More often our trips are at least 3 weeks, frequently 2-3 months.

    agree Peter but providing they have to cancel and not just because it's one of many they have booked and now have decided they don't want that one.

    be appreciated"

    Hi, would it not be possible in this modern era to be able to put in your preferred dates and site onto the CC website and then receive either a text or e-mail to say that there has been a cancellation and your preferred dates and site are now available to book, just a thought.

    I am sure it would be possible. Tesco do it on their web site, if something is out of stock. You never know the new web site might include that feature.

    Do you mean like having a waiting list? If so I can foresee obstacles along the way. How long would you have to take up the offer? What if you had now found another site? Does the text at some point go to the next person in the queue? Etc. 

    Or maybe I've misunderstood

    Hi, I did not mean a waiting list, it would be a text or e-mail that went out to all people with the preferred cancelled dates/sites and unfortunately it would be fastest finger first, seems a bit unfair maybe but at least someone would get their preferred
    date/site.

    It would be like happens in other, ways where people want some thing or lost some thing but never bother adviseing if got alternative or found what was lost,

    Write your comments here...works a treat TG, we never have much of a problem. Mind you, we don't stop at Castleton, Chatsworth or Rowntree Park!

    ...I agree ,in all the years we have used cc sites we can count on one hand the times when a call to sites for a longer stay than just a W/end has not been positive
