Overnight travel - how to break the journey

hi all,

i will be travelling with my 2 kids, 5 and 1 in july from henley to dundee.

we have to drive overnight so the kids sleep in the car. we plan to leave henley at 8pm( bedtime) breaking the journey after about 6 hours.

any suggestions for sites with late night arrival areas close to m6 or m1 about 6 hours norh of henley, or other ideas?

    From Henley I would think you would use M40, M42, M6 and west coast, or M42 to M1, A1 and east coast. East coast, according to Google,  is 1 hour longer, but does take you past Durham  Grange CC site, which is right alongside the A1 and about the right distance. It does have a late night arrivals, but I don't think they are intended to be used as you want to. The latest time you can say you are arriving, when you book is 8pm. So I think they are really intended if you are running late and miss the 8pm cut off. You then stop in LNA and move onto site the next day, just paying the person fee for your stay in LNA. I am not sure how planning to arrive at 2am would be viewed. However, you could phone and ask.

    Your only option i would think after 6hrs? is to use a Motorway service area , as i do not think any sites accept the method of staying you are expecting ,unless you are booked to arrive that day to go on site

    I still think it is worth giving the warden a ring, as long as you are prepared to book for that night and pay the appropriate charge the next day. I don't think noise ar 2am would be an issue at Durham Grange. It is quite a noisy site, being so close to the A1. It would certainly be a lot better than motorway services with two young children. Most motorway services charge £20 so the cost would be similar.

    The alternative might be the M6 Tebay Caravan site which I think has flexible late access. Might be worth a call to check this out?

    The late night arrivals ar Durham Grange do seem to be full more than other sites so I would not rely on it without checking with the site first. I get the impression they can be given to people staying overnight and wanting an early departure.
