Dual carriageway on A23 from M23 to within about 4 miles of Brighton, then good (but slow and busy) urban roads to seafront. Beware of bike lanes, speed cameras and 20mph limits throughout the city.
BEWARE!
Roads will be closed on the seafront and city route on Sunday (28th) for the half marathon. In past years this has caused gridlock and long delays. Details here:

There is a good and direct alternative route avoiding city centre and seafront) from A23 via A27 East (briefly), Coldean Lane, A270 (towards Brighton), Bear Rd (1 mile moderately steep uphill), Warren Rd for 200 yds then TR at T. Lights onto Wilson Ave (CC site at bottom towards Marina) but you'll need to check it out on Google Maps or a paper map.
I grew up in Brighton, still live nearby, and used to taxi drive there for a couple of years.

Did that that run last week in a motorhome and don't recall any problems once you leave the motorway. I just followed my sat nav which took me the same way as the CC recomend. Your biggest problem will probably be the M25. I assume you are aware of the payment

Hi bigkev2000,
Please feel free to use our online route planning tool which will ensure you do not drive down any narrow or unsuitable roads.
You can find the route planner, by scrolling right to the bottom of the page, wherever you are on the website, under the heading, UK Caravan Sites.
Have a great weekend and I hope you enjoy your stay at the Brighton site.
