Somerset/Dorset Sites

Can anybody recommend sites in Somerset/Dorset from where we can keep driving to a minimum. We particularly enjoy activities, including walking, straight from the site without having to drive.  We also enjoy the coast and National Trust properties. For anything
thoroughly recommended which might need us to drive, does anybody have any experience of parking a motorhome there.

    The first club site which springs to mind is Exmoor House right in the middle of Dulverton. You could easily do a different walk every day of the week fromthere without driving off site.

    Wood Farm affiliated site at Charmouth. Has service pitches if you do not want to move the van for an extended perod. Good walking from the site along the coast and inland. Plus a good bus service from close to the site gates, which goes both ways along
    the coast.

    Here's a starter. The CC site at Dulverton, Exmoor House is in the centre of a lovely Exmoor town with good shops and eateries. There are lots of excellent walks direct from Dulverton, long and short, over all sorts of terrain. A pleasant drive away is the NT Knightshayes Court, also the ancient Tarr Steps and the Watersmeet river gorges above Lynmouth, all worth a visit and might involve dipping your toes into Devon too.Smile

    Forgot to add that you can park a motorhome at all these places. At Watersmeet you might need to use the top car park rather than the roadside one depending on the length of your motorhome.

    Surprisingly the CC Minehead is also good for walking, particularly the S/W coastal path. There are other local walks plus short drives to get you closer to Dunkery and Selworthy Beacons, mostly in the care of the NT. Nice tea rooms too.
    Smile There are some lovely walks in these areas. NT Dunster Castle can be reached on foot from the Minehead site or you can park in the parkland
    at the foot of the castle. The steam train at Minehead will drop you off at various coastal staions for more walks.Smile
