Aberdeen Motorhome stops
I need to spend a couple of nights in Aberdeen this weekend and hoped to take my Motorhome for accomodation. There are no sights open in the area not even a CL. Anyone any ideas of a good place to stop, a restuarant that welcomes motorhomes etc.

I would be wary of the city itself, as with any urban area. I used to stay at Deeside Caravans, Maryculter sometimes when working in the area. Not to far to city, and a pub a few mins walk away. CC Silverbank at Banchory was my favorite, but probably shut
just now? Or for a free night, ASDA at Portlethan? You might not get any sleep tho'!0 -
I've asked on another forum but I'm afraid the answers I got were not favourable, it would seem that Aberdeen is not motorhome friendly. The only suggestions I got was to try along the water front, but if its at the weekend it gets a bit busy with the boy
racers. The only other place I can think of is the waterfront at Stonehaven, the site is not open at the moment and Stonehaven tolerate M/Hs overnighting out of season, but its not that close to Aberdeen, theres always Asda car park0 -
The Deeside Caravan Park just outside Aberdeen was devastated by the recent floods as was the nearby Mill Inn Hotel. The retail park on the riverside was also affected and Asda I believe is a 24 hour store, you might not get much sleep .If you are a CC member Greenpark CL at Banchory is open all year and if not Hillhead Caravan Park at Kintore is the only other one that is open at this time of year that I can think of. Write your comments here...With respect Aberdeen has been blighted for years by people pulling up and camping on waste ground and car parks with caravans and motorhomes. They quite rightly expect campers to use camping sites so they are looking after the environment.

Maybe its time for them to look at providing somewhere for folk to stay out of season, there used to be a caravan park at Hazelhead but thats gone now. Aberdeen has so much to see and do I'm suprised that there isn't a site open all year.

Hi there we are from Aberdeen and there is not much around here. the Maryculter site has been flooded and believe it is still closed. You could call them to ask just in case. There is a CL site just out the road from us on A944 Backhill farm might be
worth a call asking if they would accommodate you as a one off? Coalford farm where we store our caravan used to be a CL but not listed now again a working farm. Not sure where about in Aberdeen you looking to stay. We have had problems with travellers
so lots of barriers been put up to stop entry into places. I have seen some motorhomes parked in a car park area just beside Hazlehead /crematorium however no facilties there whatsoever. The seafront can get very busy at the weekend with lots of boy racers
in the evenings and lots of people walking during the day. I would imagine Stonehaven CC closed, I just had a look at Haughton Park in Alford and again that is closed till March. Some of our supermarkets have restricted parking so you would need to be careful
The park and ride at Kingswells has barriers up to stop travellers pitching up. will rack my brains to see if I can think of anywhere.0 -
Kellysmum there is a debate whether the fines are legal or not and a couple took them to court and won and did not have to pay fines! just need to be careful. There is nowhere legal you can park up this area with a MH or caravan overnight for 'wild' camping.
Too many travellers have spoiled it0 -

Write your comments here...Then there NEEDS to be a site that is open all year! The OP is Not looking to wildcamp especially, just looking for somewhere to stay, out of season, Should be possible surely in 2016 ! The wildcamping suggestions were Not his.
Looking after the environment should include providing legal places where visitor's can stay. Without causing offence or getting fined. Not going to bang on about Aires, but this is the very situation where one would not go amiss (provided the laws against misuse were strictly enforced).

been severely damaged by floods and may not be open for many months. Stonehaven and Banchory Club sites open in mid March as do most of the commercial sites when hopefully the weather will have improved enough to let people out to enjoy their hobby. The news
of the floods may not have reached Pembrokeshire but I can assure you not many people are looking for caravan or M/H pitches in Aberdeen or shire at the moment a lot are trying to have claims settled for the loss of their much loved static vans, caravans,
motor homes, homes and businesses ! Kellysmum0 -
Kellys mum n dad, no, not heard about your flooding, plenty about the lake district, and other spots but not Scotland. Hope you are OK ? I know when we were looking for our cottage, we chose one 200ft above sea level, with a sea view, and not near a river. We have more than our fair share of rain, but no flooding.
Ps Kelly looks lovely, we lost our black labrador bitch Wendy, back in August, she was 13. Still have a rescue yellow lab.Lucy.

Kelly has just turned 8 and has been caravanning since she was 4 months old. Feeling a bit sorry for herself this evening as she was out for her first decent walk for ages today and although the mind is able the legs are weak ( a bit like her owners' ) I
wrote quite a lengthy post about the floods in Scotland but when I went to post it I had been timed out Grrrr ! We were OK but even although we are on top of hill we did have to dig a trench to divert water away from the house as the field drains weren't draining
the rainwater away quickly enough. I think if you Google Abergeldie Castle or Ballater floods you might see some of the destruction that Scotland has suffered recently. Roll on the better weather ! Kellysmum0 -
Kelly 's mum n dad, is it Kelly 's hips that are the problem ? Our Wendy had very bad hips, even though her parents had good hip scores, she had a good pedigree, But we would only have rescued Labradors now. We gave Wendy cod liver oil capsules (less messy than the liquid) 2 in her dinner, and glucosamine tablets (in a cheese triangle). These kept her active until she was 13, but she still needed assistance to climb stairs. And had to be helped into the back of the car. But she enjoyed life, and loved rock pools on the beach, and to the end was a very strong swimmer (which was good for her,if the water was warm). Good luck Ray.
Hope this doesn't get moved by the dog police.
