FAO: The Admiral - The Ashes, Kendal

Tombar, The Ashes is a decent site, it used to be a CL a good few years ago before it expanded. Our next door neighbours have stopped there in the past more than once. Have you looked at the route to it? There are a lot of problems in Kendal at the moment
with both the main bridges closed, following the floods. 

What I was thinking about was the getting about at Kendal, really, Goldie. If tombar doesn't know all the back roads the closed bridges could present a problem. Is there any indication of when they are going to be fixed?

Kendal seems to be more or less permamently gridlocked. This link to BBC Cumbria Traffic page shows the latest information.

A6 Romney Road - I think is exepcted to take about another month

A6 Victoria Bridge - 4 weeks

B6254 (which you might use if going from The Ashes to KIrkby Lonsdale) - no date - might be 18 months. But, plans are afoot to erect a tempoary bridge, starting in about two weeks.

The suggested diversions through Kendal are not good (very busy, including a housing estate). Minor roads around OId Hutton and New Hutton are in a bad state because of the traffic - potholed and broken down at the edges.

But, if you avoid town (bad for local business I know), Ashes is very accessible. And you can easily get on and off the motorway to get up to Shap and Penrith etc. Or head east to Sedbergh. Or to Kirkby Lonsdale via Oxenholme and A65.

A good OS map show the minor roads and you just need care - and to expect more traffic than usual.

Plus 1.  You must already be very busy Goldie.  How are you managing without your bridge?

The loss of St Sundays bridge is a nuisance, but there are diversions - albeit long - to get to the other side and the village etc. But our main farming problems are caused by the total loss of one of our own bridges, and damage to another (can't drive tractors over). Our felds stretch nearly a mile and over the years we have built a substantial track down, and bridges over the becks. So with the loss of these bridges - and the water is too deep and banks eroded to cross - we can't access much of our land. It's obviously not a problem for grazing stock at the moment - but we need somewhere  to spread slurry! We have started clearing debris etc but until the water goes down it's difficult to fix the broken bridge, and rebuidling the other is months away.
