hello everyone and a happy new year to you all!!

im still very new to caravanning and am really looking to make the most of this up and coming year. What you you suggest are the best family sites to visit in England? I live in Essex and don't mind travelling a little.

It will be me, my wife and our two boys who are 2 and 4.

Any suggestions would be brilliant.

Steve

Hello and welcome Thebraddings and a Happy New Year to you.  I can thoroughly recommend Ferry Meadows near Peterborough as a family site.  We live in Peterborough and have often used it to take our grand-children away.  There is so much to do there - a wonderful country park with great play areas for children and the Nene Valley Heritage Railway to mention just 2 attractions on offer. There are many more.Smile

We have also used Ferry Meadows to take our grandson (age 3) away. He loved the play area, chasing the rabbits and squirrels - of which there are plenty. We took his bike knowing he could ride it safely around the site but also around Nene Valley park too. Nene Valley have a miniture railway and there is the preservation railway on the edge of the site. The railway travels into Peterborough where there are a couple of swimming pools, cinema etc.. All in all an excellent site so much so that he did not want to go home at the end of our break!!

Hello Steve and family.  I don't know your area very well at all so can't help on your question but just wanted to welcome you to Club Together anyway.

I think it really depends upon what you expect/want  from a family site!  Is it what the area has to offer or what the site itself offers? I know that we took our children away to be with them in the outdoors but I know from past threads on this topic there are those who have the opposite view. Some at the other extreme just want a playground so they, the adults, can chill out and the children can play out of sight but in relative safety!

Glad you have booked Ferry Meadows Thebraddings, i am sure you all have a good time. Take your children'bikes, scooters etc as it is a very safe environment for them. If you venture into Peterborough the museum in Priestgate is excellent for children. I don't know what time of year you are coming but Pigeon's Farm at Thorney about 12 mikes away is excellent for small children as is Sacrewell Farm at Wansford about 8 miles away. Have fun Cool. Please ask if you want any more information as we are local and might be able to help.

Hi, another site you might look at at is Kingsbury Water Park  near Tamworth just off M42. A super area for kids with plenty of space for playing and there is the water park with so many forest walks and  cycle paths. There is also a smalll animal farm for
kids as well and with Tamworth town quite close there is always the Snowdome for added fun.My partner's grandkids loved it. the  childrens play park  has a zipwire for them to ride as well, great fun !! SG2

Scarborough West Ayton! This site has lots to offer the family and so has the locality. From the towering chalk sea cliffs of Bempton, the rugged rocky coves around Whitby, the majesty of the moors, the beauty of the forests, it's like lots of British scenery rolled into one. Also the traditional seaside town amusement and a surfing beach closer by. Then you have playgrounds, a games room and a games field all on site. It is a members only site too!

I second Scarborough West Ayton, a favourite stomping ground for us. And for that traditional seaside experience, book a council beach chalet (but have wetsuits at the ready, it is the North Sea after all).

A bit further up the A1 is Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire. Located within the National Trust Park. Seems very popular with families, booked solid most weekends throughout the year. It has a very large play area and there is plenty of walking available in
the surrounding wood / parkland. Acces to the parkland is free on foot / bike, or if you want to take your car further into the park, free on production of your  booking receipt.

Our favourite is Southport club site, a great location for the wonderful seaside town and all of its amenities. Our kids love it there and so do we.
