We do not use CC sites much now , Evan off peak they have got expensive , funny thing is we still bump into people we know who are doing the same thing , perhaps CC should listen to us all instead of getting to greedy !

There again they cannot run sites at a loss. Perhaps they should be looking at their overhead costs a little more closely and ways of reducing them instead of just putting up prices every time.

I admit that I never look at the prices when booking as that is, to me, not a factor in site choice. No idea how they have changed for 2016.

As for toilet blocks I have been satisfie with all that I have encountered and we visit around 17 different sites most years

You must be loaded rich like me then Laughing I don't put my Buccaneer on any old pitch. The more expensive the better. Seriously
though, I've noticed the price increase, but it really doesn't bother me thus far, still good value for money.

Now where's the butler gone to, slacker. I'd sack him but he's very good at polishing my privacy windows Wink

we have an annual world wide travel policy that covers any untoward holiday hiccups....though have never used it....Happy

its industry practice to charge a deposit and then full payment the closer you get to the departure date.

the cc is fairly unique in its 'change your mind at the last minute' approach to booking, but i wouldnt be expecting any other holiday supplier to be offering this so we make provision for ourselves.

i have one holiday 'on the go' thats already paid for but we dont leave until end of May....but thats the norm AFAIK.

as I said that is the norm, we even did it once when hiring a large cottage in the lakes, it's just not the morm in the CC and nor is it needed(?)

This is one of the things we really like about the CC. Not that we abuse it, only calling on the option when absolutely necessary. Annual insurance that included any sort of health cover would cost me a small fortune.

Following on from BB's post above......we booked a week in Devon on a commercial site.....extra large, fully serviced pitch with a view of the sea, ability to book a specific pitch.....for £105.

We then received an email from them saying that they hadn't given us the full on-line discount and credited another £10 to our credit card within the hour.

    That is the difference! Smile

Which site Ian? Sounds good - we tend to miss Devon, always heading on through to Cornwall. Keep saying we should find somewhere to stopped off - even if they can't dress their scones the right way round! Laughing

agreed, Steve.....i was just responding to Corners' post where he seemed surprised that some would pay 'hundreds' of pounds in advance for a summer touring holiday with suppliers other than CC.

my point was that this was the norm in the industry and that CC is the exception....a good one, agreed.....but definitly not the norm and certainly not a reason for us to use them exclusively.

no different than booking a theatre or concert ticket.....book up and pay.

where he seemed surprised that some would pay 'hundreds' of pounds in advance for a summer touring holiday with suppliers other than CC

BB I know it's one of your habits which you've have done many times and been reported for, to misquote people to suit your own ends but I did not say or imply that. Please read the post carefully before you write such outright lies, I posted:

I think there is quite a difference in paying on arrival and paying in advance in full, we're talking only a £100 here, but a summer holiday could cost far more, into the hundreds

Please point out where I expressed surprise that  some would pay such an amount? and where was outside the club even mentioned? My only coment was about paying in full in advance. There was no 'surprise' merely that the amount could be quite large. I keep getting emails from Thomsons who seem only to want a £50 deposit for a thousand pound holiday.

It has struck me that the reason club sites cost a bit more than average could be the lack of deposits and payment before you arrive. The others are still getting something for the no shows and late cancelations but the club does not. That cost has to be
recovered somewhere so maybe contrary to what they told us they could reduce fees if deposits were collected. Having said that the C&CC have deposits and do not look to be cheaper although given their pricing structure it is hard to be sure.

Caravanning is supposed to be fun. Why are we having so much mysery and  moaning from some posters on the forum about the sites needing upgrading and made all hardstanding. The CC has better things to spend it's ( our ) money on, like adding more sites to the network, in more scenic locations.

I couldn't care less, if I choose to tour in a particular area and the most scenic CC site is all grass pitches. It's just somewhere to park the outfit when we go out and about exploring.  Nor would I bother if the CC site did not have public lavatories.

We have all the facilities we need right in our caravan.

It comes down to priorities, if people want an all singing all dancing camp site, maybe they should look at high end commercial sites, I'm happy with the way the CC sites give a good choice to the membership.

I prefer grass pitches. They are much more comfortable for your feet and easier to peg the awning down, especially if you don't have rock pegs. So I sincerely hope they won't waste money converting more grass pitches into hard standing.

In answer to the post about paying in advance (and at risk of being 'reported' should I mis-quote by an odd word!).......I think I was offered the option of paying a deposit and the rest a couple of months before going, but I just paid in full to avoid the
    hassle.

The money has to be paid anyway so paying a couple of months early isn't an issue. Not being able to cancel without penalty isn't an issue either, because we will be going.

It would appear however, that some people do think that the ability to cancel last minute is important.......I assume they are the speculative bookers that the CC try to claim do not exist?

I think one advantage of being in the club is being able to amend your arrangements. We are a touring club and amending sites/arrangements rather than cancelling is a real advantage on occasions. That's the advantage of having many sites and not just one available to us. Now if folk wish that the system change to that operated by the 'commercial' sites then fine but I'd bet they are in a minority!

corners, I apologise for suggesting your post referred to non CC sites, a genuine mistake.

however, despite you not actually expressing surprise, this is how your post came across to me....the amounts being significantly different, so a different 'train of thought' perhaps, if not actually 'surprise'?......'concern' (?) even that someone should
have to pay 'hundreds' weeks in advance rather than 'just in advance' ie at the office prior to your holiday.

i would suggest that the £50 deposit might secure a holiday but most of these companies require the remaining balance (hundreds) to be paid 'weeks in advance'. i know, i have just paid the balance to one such company.

again, i apologise for the non CC reference.....

micky, i dont think many want to change this....its one of the (few) really flexible things that cc do....

however, the thrust of most of the posts in this area is that CC is in the minority (unique even) in offering a 'last minute change your mind for free' option amongst 'leisure companies'....

most others ask for (either) a deposit and (or) then the balance significantly prior to the intended break....to protect themselves specifically from folk 'changing their minds at the last minute'.

see I'd be willing to consider this as a possibility as long as it is understood that the deposit is against a pitch on the network and not specific to a particular site.  Afterall it is a club not a site we are members of!

Black Horse Farm requires payment in advance for ferry pitches, does this really deter some members from booking?

I am of the mind that I'll happily pay up front in total. If I don't turn up then the supplier(of the space) is not out of pocket, I am. As it was me who broke the contract as it were then I should be the one to suffer a loss. Taking responsibility for our
    actions is a good thingHappy

I wouldn't think so, particularly if they had Red Pennant.  If they had a problem on the way and didn't make it they could claim costs back.

I have no problem paying a deposit and then the full amount prior to arrival, and we have when staying on commercial sites. However, I much prefer the CC policy, and given how much fuss is made on CT about the membership fee being something for nothing,
I would have thought members would welcome the fact that they are being provided with a service not generally available in the outside world.

Indeed, and you make a good point, by being members the  club can, and does, note if you cancel within the 72 hours or even not show up. They can and do take action is you do this three times in one year. They club does state that this has brought down late
cancelations and no shows significantly more than with the deposite system. Not sure what happens with non members but I would think that the number of non members staying on club sites to be low

However, you don't have to pay up front when booking, just a few days before you go.   It is to do with people arriving/leaving when the office is closed.
