Cyber, what does ISTM stand for..... I'm not too proud to ask
Following on from MM's link, there is a comprehensive list
here of acronyms youy may encounter.0 -
If the discounted pitch fee covers the costs of someone staying on the pitch then why not offer discounts? By that I mean the electricity primarily.
Based on some of the information posted by people here I wouldn't think £10-12 per night would cover electricity costs.
What? We're not all Malcolms you know!
Yes wouldn't that equate to around 100kwh?

You are as persuasive as ever, BB. But there's a whole raft of people who will continue to grumble about Club site prices but continue to go to those sites - "we know what we are getting", and my favourite of all "we like the discipline". I don't think they
will venture to join you at Haven despite the prices - it would be a leap into the unknown.0 -
Do Haven sites have bars, cafes & restaurants? Supplementary income and the bar is where the turnover happens

There are some great sites and fabulous deals at off peak times away from the CC network and we are counting the months until we can take advantage of them.
We tend to stay on CC sites for short periods or as part of a tour. I've said elsewhere that I'd not be tempted to use them more off peak because they are missing a hard to define 'something' and seem rather soulless.
However I don't think I'm the CCs target customer.

I know this might be a bit off topic but I borrowed my mums directory for the "the other club" and their seasons are different for Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales! For this years summer holiday in Scotland we would be charged peak season, yet travelling to England for the same dates it is mid season - probably because the schools break up earlier in Scotland.

The Haven offfer is at the top of the page under Shop and Offers. Although I've visted friends and family on Haven sites and the facilities are good. I prefer smaller more peaceful sites which the CC provides, crowded views of statics is not my chosen outlook. I would imagine the rental and profit from the statics is a major income earner. If you can ignore this it's ok! Haven prices will rocket as the season progresses and at least you can find CC pitches (away from the very popular sites) and CLs for a lot less.

It does work to their advantage if they come to club sites in England. Come independence of course we'll charge them double for coming across here and half all prices for English visitors
to club sites in Scotland0 -
What we need to understand here is that commercial sites don't offer cheap pitches out of the goodness of their hearts. They will charge as much as the market allows......and that is far less than what the CC charge.
Some organisations are too slow to learn anything though.....

Advertising fees bring in revenue to the CC.
But clearly indicates that the CC have no intention of competing in the off season.
Expect to see more sites closed out of season (if they haven't been sold off!)
depends by what you mean by out of season (and does that exist anymore in caravaning?) but all the new sites in the past few years have been all hardstanding (Bridlington and others) and open throughout the year.

Just reviewd the Haven offer from a family viewpoint with school age child. Although the school holidays / bank holidays are excluded you can always use the pay for 1 get 3, but only actually use 2 nights, so Friday & Saturday to get home for school on Monday.
Or check out when there is an inset day!! Just found an inset day, so will look for a Haven site. Thanks BB.We did a CC and commercial site over Easter, where the CC was a higher price per night. The commercial site had 'entertainment' where as a captive audience the bar bill was high; but we knew that before going.
We use a commercial site off peak, that BB has used, overlooks the Needles, has fully serviced hard standing for £18 per night, no fees for pitch per adult per child, with access to leisure facilities on sister site. The nearest CC site is £34 per night,
for a non serviced pitch, if you can get a booking.Over this our first year of caravan ownership, we have used a mix of CC and commercial sites. The CC have all been higher priced at the times we can go away regardless of season.
We have used CL in winter at £14 per night.
We know to expect a higher price with the CC, if we get lucky and attain a bargain on CC so be it. Not the family orientated tariffs the CC thinks it has.
The membership fee has to be added onto the per night price which is currently £3 per night, but may come down to £1.5 if we get more nights in by renewal time.

Ian. They probably know, as someone else pointed out, that whatever price gets charged only a limited number of people will take their vans out in the winter. I expect running costs are higher in the winter due to fuel and power use.

Keefy where we benefit from the CC 'family friendly' pricing is that most commercial sites charge adult price from 14. So at peak times the CC is generally cheaper for us.
It's definitely about finding the right price in the right location for us. In July and August the CC tends to win for us but that will change soon
I don't fancy paying for 4 adults much anywhere and sites with an inclusive pitch fee are starting to look more attractive.0 -

better sounding other site?0 -

Either they are programmed into believing to get value from the membership fee they need to use club sites.
Or they are snobs who think using club sites makes them better educated and of better class.
While ignoring the insults to all those people staying at that site, an interesting, somewhat binary and insiteful viewpoint. Would you extrapolate your version of reality into all club sites and members?

Broons, really? I'd have thought anyone using any facility to attempt to make them seem something they're obviously not is self defeating-very
