Derbyshire Peak District Tour
Hoping that those of you who know the Peak District well can advise us here. Possibly taking a walking tour of the Peaks with tenting friends. The proposed route between the campsites that they have selected would be from Hope to Bakewell and then on to
Hartington. Our concern is that we need to be able to tow our caravan between these locations any advice on the feasibilty of this would be gratefully received.

We've spent a lot of time in that area - most of the roads are OK with care, it depends exactly where you are planning to stay and which sites, but unless you have a giant outfit you should be OK. (Incidentally, I could tell you the name of a site to definitely
avoid in the Bakewell area, given our experience there a couple of years ago, but that's another story!) There's some great walking in the Peak District on the footpaths and the converted railway lines - The Monsal Trail is particlularly good as are The Tissington
and High Peak Trails. If you do go on the Monsal, it's worth the short detour to the village of Little Longstone, just up from Monsal Head where you'll find one of the best, most tracitional walkers' pubs in the area - The Packhorse - it's one we make a beeline
for every time we visit the area.0 -
Like Moulesy we've toured every bit of the Peaks and you should be OK with your itinerary. The road through Bakewell will need care but plenty of Caravans manage it each year. Can endorse M's choice of the Packhorse.Hope you enjoy the Peaks as much as we
do.ps Almost forgiven you for starting Sunday Departure thread!

Thank you everyone for your replies and especially thanks to "wherenext" for his forgiveness! The campsites our friends have in mind for us are "Hardhurst Farm" in the Hope Valley, "Greenhills" near Bakewell and at Hartington "Upper Hurst Farm" our concerns
were that whilst they will up sticks and drive between sites we will be towing, a few years back we were unable to join them in Yorkshire simply because we were unable to tow between the selected locations. Looking like we should be ok this time though! Thanks
again!0 -
Check the roads on the map carefully! - I foolishly followed the Sat Nav to get to Bakewell - and the Chatsworth site - not a great road and clearly a rat run for cars on a Sunday afternoon - their faces when they encountered a caravan on the hairpin bends were a picture - I expect mine was too! Won't take that wrong road again! Although it was doable!
