Caravan registration for Europe
I go to Spain every winter. At the moment I don’t have to register my caravan as I go from Portsmouth to Santander. I realise that if I was to travel through France it would have to be registered. If I decided to register it even if I didn’t need to, would I get any discount on my insurance?

I can’t imagine why you would. It’s not an insurance issue but best ask your cover provider to be sure.

I intend to. It’s just that I was talking to a friend this morning and he was saying, when you register you get a registration document. If your caravan is stolen it couldn’t be sold unless they had the registration card. Which means it would act as a security device.

I doubt that.
Simple removal of the reg plate would negate that.
"Registration document, what registration document? This van isn’t registered, Mate."0 -
I think your friend may be getting confused with CRiS. I've never bothered as the system is biased towards UK vans and whilst they open up your choice of insurer I cannot see any real benefit. As an owner of a German van the hoops you have to jump through make no sense, but that's another issue.
As regards the "Caravan Registration for Europe", I've done that and share your thoughts about a cheaper insurance. Yes somebody can remove the registration plate, but the Vin No is on a government database that can be checked by Police.

Yes it can be checked but first the police have to find the van and have a reason to check it on the database.
As for 'cannot be sold', I think I’ve debunked that one.
