Red Pennant demise

@Hja That is a very good point. RP had an excellent small team at HQ who could liaise on your behalf where as individually there could be a language barrier if that service was not available. I appreciate that there are electronic means to get your point over but nothing better than someone who can speak the language?

Over the years we saw three doctors and an emergency dentist in France - just by asking campsite reception to make appointments for us - and I believe many do the same if they need a vet. Do people really need to phone Red Pennant for events like that?

Maybe not for sniffles or toothache but how about for a broken leg or heart attack, for instance? Think about it.

yes if you need someone who speaks English. On one occasion when my husband had a bad back and could hardly move he was treated by a doctor who could explain the issue. We were asked by RP if we wanted to return home, which we didn’t, we just changed our itinerary. On another occasion the issue was related to my husbands insulin. English was essential. I have very little French and no other language, Ian has less. This was before mobile phones and google translate. But having a friendly voice helping you to sort things was so helpful. This is what we paid for.

Re the language barrier. I've had to call on Red pennant once. It was a Sunday morning deep in the Dordogne and as I left the site I realised I had a wheel bearing issue on the caravan. I phoned RP back in the UK who put me on to one of the recovery drivers/mechanics who they send out. What a small world, it was the father of a 6th student I taught.

Rowena the conditions are certainly listed, but in one section you are only eligible as long as only one of the listed conditions apply. Angina and Heart attack are separate sections, although often both go together. Certainly the other providers I have looked at lump them in one category.

May Day is provided by Green Flag, but the cover is not the same.
May Day has extra bells and whistles designed for the caravan owner, that covers the caravan as a separate unit, even when it is not attached to the car. This may sound a small difference, but if you had an accident in the car when the caravan was at the campsite then May Day would cover you and Green flag may not. If the axle broke on your caravan then May Day would cover you and Green Flag may not.
With May day you pay a what is actually a slight premium for peace of mind.

Mayday is not unique for car plus caravan breakdown cover. Www.eurobreakdown.com will also cover caravan in its own right in the way that Colin has just described.
And one policy with that company covers breakdowns both in UK and in France - Mayday wants separate policies for each area and requires payment twice.0 -
Hi @SteveL
To answer yours and others questions, the assistance centres for both Green Flag and PJ Hayman have English speaking multi-lingual support so they will be able to handle any translation difficulties. When handling a medical incident the assistance team will be able to liaise with the medical facility, keep policyholders updated on required treatment, care plans and repatriation if required.
With regards to the 'accepted medical conditions list' if an individuals conditions can't be covered then PJ Hayman will be able to discuss alternative cover options.
With regards to Green Flag only being able to sell MAYDAY European Breakdown cover within 30 days of the departure date, this is currently being reviewed with the intention of extending the purchase period (a system change is required). MAYDAY European Breakdown is only available by calling Green Flag and is not currently available to purchase online. Green Flag do have their own European Breakdown cover but with different benefits to MAYDAY European Breakdown. When choosing any policy it is important to check the cover, and levels of the cover, meet your needs.
