That seems like a quite comprehensive list of sites and improvements. Did I miss it but I would have thought that Black Horse Farm would have been ideal for the automatic entrance system, given it would allow people to arrive over an extended period?

so looking forward to seeing Ayr Craigie once it’s finished it’s one of our local sites so we are down there 7-8 times a year and it’s been needing a refresh for a long time. Hoping to go there opening weekend.

Also can’t wait to go to Hillhead again it’s our favourite site we have been down there multiple times over the years just a shame it’s a bit far from home or we would go more often. Hoping to go down there this summer once the redevelopments are done. @Rowena is there any possibility of Hillhead opening earlier if works progress well or is the current stated date the earliest

Goos news David. I've had it confirmed that Black Horse Farm Club campsite is also getting a new fast check-in entry system. Plus improvements to the site entrance and lane configuration.

We will be updating the redevelopment page to reflect his. 😊

I’ve noticed that New England Bay has been “cut in half” with one toilet block closed/removed.

Is this permanent? And will the smaller number of remaining pitches still be as spacious? Especially those towards the back. Or scrunched up?

Is this move because of the Council site next door?

    Thanks Rowena

Black Horse Farm to me seems the most obvious site to have fast check-in because of the ferry pitches, it might even lead to a bit more flexibility on arrival times?

Hi @Rowena I didn't see any mention in the development plans of further metered hook-ups. Is there somewhere that lists the next sites for the roll-out ?

    Hi @JimE

P2 of the metering trial went live at Steamer Quay and Wyatts Covert in the Autumn. This trial is currently under review to ensure it meets our objectives to enable members to take control of their power consumption with the potential to save money, giving members choice, reducing power consumption on the campsite and to ensure members and staff are happy with the process and tools we have put in place. Once we are comfortable with the results we will be discussing the next steps in terms of any potential future campsites. At this time we have no plans to extend the trial or do a major roll out, however this forms part of the review process and we will let members know any plans as soon as we approve them.

In case you are not aware we also have the Non electric saver offer available at all UK Club campsites, so anyone who can be self sufficient can talk to the site team on arrival and they will apply a discount to your booking and lock the socket off on the pitch.

You can find out more about Electric Smart Metering on our website.

    Hi @Goldie146

Yes, we have reviewed the site operation and taken the decision to reduce the number of available pitches to 70. We expect this to be how the site operates for the foreseeable future.  The vast majority of the pitches that will be available are pitches that were already in use so we expect that campsite guests will have the same on-site experience.

There is no council campsite next door, the area has become a well known area for wild camping, but it is not a council run site.

@JimE I think the confusion arises from a short on detail club magazine article in the December edition about the trial at two sites. It gives facts and figures about what worked and what didn't but lacks detail on the next steps. It talks about 'whenever a bollard is equipped' in the future but no time scale was given.

@Rowena just wondering if the opening dates for Hillhead are set in stone or is it possible it could be brought forward depending on how works progress. Only asking as we tend to go early July but looks like the site isn’t taking bookings until late July

Thank you for this reassurance. We will be going up there some time in summer, and remembering our first visit 50 years ago. I thought I read that the wild camping “site” was council run. But I suppose it’s just on a list of where to park up for free. Our summer wouldn’t be complete without a visit to New England Bay.

Hi @Francis I've just checked with a colleague who has advised it is possible it may come forward before the 24 July but it is too early in the works to know at this stage.  Sorry we couldn't be of more help.

@Rowena thanks for your reply and for checking. Will keep an eye out we will probably go anyway just that we normally go the earlier part of July. I Understand with these sorts of projects that delays etc can happen. Hoping Ayr Craigie opens on schedule at that’s our go to for weekends.

    Thanks again :)

the issue with the club initiative to opt out of hook up is that it is only available on a couple of pitches on any site and you don’t know until you arrive on site. Surely it wouldn’t be difficult to offer as many non hookups as are wanted.

@Hja As I understand it the opt out is available on all pitches on all sites:

By popular demand, you asked, and we listened. We have introduced a smarter way to stay. You can now choose a non-electric option on any pitch at our UK Club campsites. Whether you are fully off-grid or just looking to cut costs, opt out of hook-up electricity to enjoy greater flexibility and a lower nightly rate.

Hi @Hja yes as Cornersteady mentions this is available on all Club campsites. Each campsite right now can do two non-electric saver pitches but we have capability to expand if the demand is there. So far as far as we are aware we have not refused anyone.

I totally support the choice for those who do not wish to pay extra for hook up. I feel this is sensible but wonder how it would work for making sure it’s switched back on again for those of us that do want hook up? There’s been many times we’ve helped out others on nearby pitches who have problems connecting up, so if there’s not a fail safe plan B in place by site staff to make sure it’s back on for the next user, I can see an issue and moving pitches before they’ll seek help from site staff. Hopefully this is already addressed, else maybe the site staff could place a marker or similar on the socket/bollard showing its been disconnected and to speak to the staff for re-connection would save a lot of head scratching and stress 🤷‍♀️😂👍
