Does anybody have one of these with a towball fitted? Can you tell me the distance from ground to mid towball with vehicle unladen? I ask because I have a recently acquired Toyota RAV4 with a factory fitted towbar and ball - detachable. It is too high which means I cannot tow my caravan off my downsloping drive because the rear grounds. This did not happen with any of my previous Honda crv's because the tow ball was lower. (approx 436mm as defined above, I beleive) (the RAV4 is at 512mm and Toyota say they can't change it in any way at all.

It is a requirement that the centre of the towball shall be between 350 and 420mm off the ground when the car is fully laden. There is no requirement for the unladen condition, but given your dimension of 512mm this would mean that the back end of the car would have to drop at least 92mm when it is at its full GVW, which sounds unusually high. I can only suggest that you check the towball height when the car is fully laden. If it is greater than 420mm, then it would be outside the required limit, in which case the wrong towbar may have been fitted.

To my knowledge, the RAV4 was never offered with a factory fitted towbar. It was always a dealer fitment, but maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong.
