LPG IN SPAIN
I am planning a long trip to Spain and Portugal this winter. Our hob and fridge work off a Calor gas supply, so I am planning to take our usual UK 6kg bottles with us. We know that the LPG bottles and fittings are different over there. What is the easiest way to get our UK bottles refilled, or get replacement bottles that attach to our UK valves?

You cannot get UK calor bottles refilled in Spain, at least legally and it is not recommended you try. Most of those over wintering in Spain get hold of Spainish bottles and adapters to fit their system because bottled gas in Spain is cheap. I have never had to do this because I have Gaslow refillable bottles so I am unsure how you would go about it. There seems to be several sources of bottles:
Buy from a Spanish supplier
Buy second hand, they can sometimes be found on eBay
Some campsites will rent you a bottle
Not one hundred percent sure but think >this < adapter is the one required for Spanish bottles
Hopefully you will get more positive answers from those who have used Spanish LPG bottles.

As peedee says, many of us buy second hand. We bought ours at a car boot sale for €10 and then drove to a Respol dealer and exchanged it for a full bottle. I seem to recall going to a hardware shop (ferreteria) in Spain to buy what we needed to fit it our outfit. (It was a long time ago!) Quite often people on campsites would have ones for sale displayed on their pitches, or advertised on notices pinned on site noticeboards.
Since changing our motorhome to one with refillable gas tanks we had no need of it, so sold it on ebay last year, with the necessary adapters. Worth looking on there.

Calder Valley Motorhomes stock Repsol cylinders and adaptors in the UK.
If you are a regular traveller to Europe, it might be worth investing in a refillable system such as the one mentioned by Peedee. Quite a few people use one refillable cylinder and one exchangeable cylinder - the best of both worlds - if you have space in your gas locker.

Thank you Jim E for that information re Calder Valley Motorhomes. It’s good to know we can buy a Repsol cylinder here should we ever need one again – saves trekking around car boot sales once there!
As you say, ideally have a cylinder and refillables. That’s what we had before we changed to a PVC: then there was no way we could carry the cylinder.
