AdBlue

Sorry, I need a rant… The day the warranty ended on our new-to-us 2018 Accordo, the van displayed ‘AdBlue System Failure’. “No” said the warrantor “not covered”.

Our trusted mechanic estimated £1100 but advised us to “delete the system from the computer, because I cannot guarantee that replacing any one part of the system would fix the problem. £500. Yes, illegal, but it will pass MOT because it won’t register that the AdBlue system ever existed and therefore won’t be tested”. I didn’t like this solution.

A neighbour, who works on diesel vehicles, ran tests and concluded it was the pump. The pump is an integral part of the tank. :(

Next, the Peugeot dealer: “£156 to run tests”. Conclusion: “subject to more tests, we’ll replace tank+pump under an extended warranty and we wont charge for the testing”. 3 weeks later, they tried to run further tests and couldn’t get the system failure to show itself – and it hasn’t reappeared since.

Being told the system failure will not allow the engine to start after 200 or 650 or 800 miles (depending on which expert you talk to), we’re left not knowing whether it is counting down or not (because the failure has gone away). Very short breaks only for now.
