Cancelling bookings

Hi all. If I only pay a deposit for a booking and then have to cancel at short ish notice due to predicted bad weather for example, would I just lose the deposit? Or would I have to pay the balance as well?
Many thanks in advance.

You would only lose the deposit at most.

@Tinwheeler thank you. I saw that in the t&cs but thought it sounded a bit ambiguous. Thank you for confirming what I thought though

Some people are only booking on the day before they are due to set off - when they have weather forecast. Others are waiting till they are having breakfast and ready to start.

@eurortraveller thank you. We have a folding camper so not sure how it would hold up in a storm. Hoping to book for October half term

And some leave it too late….

@sallyjuliet I always opt to pay on arrival as well rather than in advance. I'm sure you would get your money back if you did pay in advance but it might take a set amount of time.

@Cornersteady thank you. I think you can pay online the day before as well to make things a bit easier. We’re hoping to go away over October half term but if we book now and then the weather changes in the week running up to it, it would be nice to be able to cancel and not pay the full amount. I don’t mind losing the deposit though1
