Never seen that before!
Today, at 08:25, at a CAMC site, I went to use the (mens) loos and for the first time in my life, there was a queue of 4 other men in front of me, all waiting to sit down and do what comes naturally.
With a sense of urgency I set off to the second toilet block only to find a queue of 5 men waiting to do exactly the same!
Was I at a small site with an understandably small amount of facilities...... No.
I was at Edinburgh CAMC - where the toilet blocks have just been 'upgraded' to include a total of 4 toilets.
That's 4 mens toilets for 150 pitches at a premier site. There are 8 women's toilets.
Is this where we are heading as a club? - I realise a toilet costs more to install than a sink, but we all need to use a toilet.
The chances of fixing this having just spent the money on it are slim, but hopefully the chances of sacking whoever sanctioned this are very high indeed. Absolutely disgusting. Shameful.
A majority of our members are elderly, and a majority of the elderly will get IBS, and it's on the increase.
I felt so sorry for one chap who felt he just had to push in front of everyone this morning, and luckily nobody objected.

"majority of the elderly will get IBS"
Sorry, I dont believe that. Where is your evidence?Anyway, you need to complain to CAMC. Posting here will change nothing.

You can’t beat a good old rant🤭 Make it up as you go along, blow any proper evidence or research. Sound bites to appeal to the disengaged (excuse the pun🤭)
2 -
It won't take much of a search to show you that between 10 and 20% of those over 70 will have IBS
I thank you for your advice on the information that posting here will change nothing and I shan't make that mistake again, although I stand by my dismay at the poor facilities and the impact it had on one poor gentleman this morning.

I think both of these are wrong. I don't know for certain but I doubt that one person sanctioned this or even planned it, the club will have used its own data and local/council regulations may have had an input too.
But a simple search will tell you that the club has got it exactly 'correct' for the number of toilets.
the minimum requirement often being one male WC and one urinal, and two female WCs, for every 30 pitches. These ratios can vary based on the local authority's regulations and whether the caravan has its own toilet. General guidelines for toilet provision
- Standard ratio:For sites up to 120+ pitches, a common requirement is one WC and one urinal for men and two WCs for women, per 30 pitches or part thereof.
- Caravans with own toilets:If caravans are equipped with their own toilets, the need for communal facilities might be less.
So if Edinburg has 150 pitches then that means it needs five male toilets, I note there is an accessible toilet as well which makes five. And of course many, if not all outfits on site will have their own. It could be debated if that is enough but that's the guidelines/laws/local authority regulations… call for and does not warrant calling for someone being sacked and it being called disgusting or shameful in my view.
As for those having IBS I think your point there is spurious. The percentage is low as you yourself have now pointed out and contradicts your earlier post where it was the majority of elderly people.
Additionally anyone so afflicted will know of their condition and can appropriate steps, there is the accessible toilet and of course I would imagine they have their own onboard facilities.
As said posting on here will do nothing but if enough people complain to the club, or leave such comments in the reviews something perhaps will get done.
Btw to make this a good test you could monitor the situation every morning between 8 and 9. It could have been a one off and as you say you've never seen that before?

”It won't take much of a search to show you that between 10 and 20% of those over 70 will have IBS”
So where’s the “majority” you referred to?

Using your own facilities in that sort of situation is fine but of course not everyone has them, small camper vans and tents for instance. Personally I agree that the number of toilets in these new blocks should be higher. Although I assume the 4 total mentioned is per block. The number of basin cubicles always seems disproportionate, they never seem to be greatly used, perhaps loose one for an additional loo.

I would change those privacy cubicles to more showers as well. At times there are queues for showers.

Anyone seriously worried about having to queue to use a loo, or a shower only needs to phone the site, or contact Club HQ to get full information on number of toilets/showers at any given Site. Then a decision can be taken as to whether or not a Site might be suitable, or if additional personal provision needs to be made. At the end of the day, extra facilities impact on the prices for everyone, including those who don’t use site facilities.

I would agree if we were talking about retrofitting into existing toilet blocks. However where it’s a totally new construction I think the extra cost would be minimal. It just needs the decision to have a few less privacy cubicles and more loos. I think most would agree it’s less of an issue queuing for a shower or cubical than a toilet.

Hi @CREWofTWO I hope you had a lovely time at Edinburgh.
I just want to let you know that we do actually have more than four male WCs at Edinburgh Club Campsite. We have two blocks at Edinburgh. One block has five male WCs and three urinals and the other has five male WCs and four urinals. There are also two accessible bathrooms with a WC, two separate accessible WCs and an inclusive bathroom.
Our new blocks are designed to be partially closed for cleaning and during this time there will be less facilities available. We have had amazing feedback from members about this as they appreciate being able to access some facilities during cleaning times.
It's peak season just now and there may be a short period of time in the day when members have to queue but for the majority of the day there are plenty of facilities.
I hope this helps for future trips.

@SteveL never been a fan of the “washrooms”, always think they date back to a time when camping was a bit of a strip wash in between a shower, so yes, I agree, would rather see more loos or showers. That said, I know some folks like them for teeth cleaning🤷♀️ Every new innovation come with an increase in prices. It happened in the 1990’s when hook ups arrived, and places that have seen new facility blocks invariably have a higher price.
Rowena has disproved the OP’s take on things nicely🤭 Have been in the new facility blocks at Clumber and they are a huge improvement on the Club’s older style of facility provision. Mind, the did come with a big price hike.0 -

@Takethedogalong If I remember correctly there were three WC’s one side and two the other, with all available except during cleaning when one side is closed at a time. As the OP stated 8:25 (a bit early for cleaning) I can only assume himself and others were queuing at the two loos in one half not realising there were others available. It always pays to have a look around the facilities block if you are unfamiliar with the site..

I’m not sure many of them frequent club sites😂

I remember getting our first caravan with a loo and an onboard shower. No more traipsing across the campsite in the rain, no more fumbling around in the dark trying to find the torch and definitely no more queuing for either a shower or a pee. I thought it was wonderful progress……….🤭
