@clarinetman What is going on? I believe it may possibly have something to do with Christmas? Very popular as both a religious and secular holiday.

But first to put your post into context those prices are for Christmas Eve, Christmas and Boxing day and Friday 19th only, so very popular dates to stay in the heart of York. Other dates are in the £50s, lowest is £50.40. They are also all non awning pitches at that price you quote and perhaps that's what people want?

To answer your question it's simply called supply and demand. What's to worry about? Is anyone being forced to pay such prices?

I'm a stay at home person for Christmas but if I wanted a site right in the heart of a city like York then I'd pay it.

btw I'm surprised you haven't mention it's £71.20 tonight for a non awning pitch? Full for awning pitches though.

Speaking of which I took this yesterday at our local garden centre, Clays, which is very popular, indeed almost locally famous with its Christmas trees and decorations for sale. I noticed the seed wall had moved inwards.

Can you spot anything top left?

its called supply and demand and while people pay sky high prises the club like many organisations will just keep on putting up the price.

when we moved to our current bungalow some 16 years ago i used to pop into my local after walking the dog or end of cycle ride, a pint used to be £2.50 today it is £5.50 do i visit any more, not likely when i can buy 10 cans for £10 in the supermarket , and i noticed today the lack of cars in the car park at lunch time, says a lot.

If our one experience of staying there (a year ago June midweek) is anything to go by, they have got the pricing about right. The site was full and I observed several EU vans turned around trying to get a pitch, as we would do when over there. York is a popular place, of course the club is going to make the most of it. Plus of course they have to finance the lost periods due to flooding closures and clean up.

It’s camping Jim……………but not as we know it!🤭

Yes it’s Christmas, yes it’s expensive, (so will all the other options be) but if folks happily pay it, then let them get on with it. If I wanted an Xmas in York, then I would get a very last minute deal at the Hilton Hotel across the river, but not everyone likes the thrill of bagging a bargain. However, this option is available if you don’t have a £75k plus outfit to stick on a pitch……….🤭

Given they don’t have any vacancies over Christmas itself and the basic price in December is at least £450 for three nights before the addition of parking, breakfast and evening meals, the last minute deal would have to be very special indeed to make the CAMC offering seem overly expensive. As most members on CT do have an outfit, of whatever value, to me it makes sense to use it. Also from a personal point of view we much prefer using it to a hotel, or other types of accommodation, it’s why we purchased it and continue to maintain it.

I will be accused of repeating myself… but if had a motorhome I would be looking for parking it at a pub - one with food, fires, music and drinks.

There are always alternatives to more expensive sites but you have to weigh up the convenience of being right in the centre of the City. Some years ago we stayed at a small site(16 pitches) just to the north of York. Other than a water tap it had no facilities but it did have hardstandings and was priced accordingly. It was on a bus route, with a convenient stop outside the Railway Museum. But as I mentioned limited facilities so how do you compare it to the Club's York site with a toilet block and a reasonably easy walk into the City?

Try booking a meal at your local pub a day or so around Christmas and the price difference compared to any other normal days has become astonishing - our local carvery, which charges £8 a person today, leaps up to £45 per person on the festive dates.
