Hello, I became a member yesterday and since then have spent hrs going through all the various parts of the club's website, it has already been worth the membership fee and I've only been on 24hrs! Although we have holidayed in my families' static caravans for years we are seriously considering investing in our own touring caravan to see other parts of the UK. This sort of thing is completely new to me (I have never even been camping having grown up going to a static caravan, so I am completely at sea about this, but find it an exciting thing to aim for, when we find the right outfit for us). We are a family of 4 with a limited budget, so I'm currently trying to work out what is essential and what can wait when we do take the plunge. I do have loads of questions, so hope that this group has a lot of people willing to explain all the basics to a complete newbie like myself.

Hello and welcome. Touring is a great way to take family holidays, but it can have its “oh dear” moments, so you do right to get clued up on things, and ask about things. You need to do a lot of research around what will be the best outfit for you, your family needs and kind of things you like doing. If you go with a caravan, then you need to research suitable towing vehicles.

Before buying anything, make sure you fully understand what to look for, even with a new outfit. Make sure you read reviews for different makes, and reviews for dealerships, as you want as little hassle as possible, and good after sales service if you do buy from a dealership. Getting this bit wrong could be expensive and frustrating, so read the Club guides so you know what to look for, all about damp, etc………

Kitting your outfit out is the fun bit, and actually quite easy with a bit of help and advice, and hopefully, as with many of us on here, will be the start of some nice holidays and memories for you👍

This is a link to the Club’s Advice page, if you haven’t already found it. Just click on the headings😁

Welcome Angela. You've already broken the ice so whatever the question fire away. Remember to add the notification to your thread so you can get answers.

You seem to already know that there will be things that you don't need to start off with. It may turn out you don't like the hobby so try not to waste money at the beginning, such as an awning.

If you intend buying budget/second hand it will help if you have someone in the family or a friend who is knowledgeable about the workings of caravans then take them with you when viewing. Make sure everything works by getting the dealer or seller to show you and try to get a damp meter to test all four corners of the caravan including front locker.

I hope things work out well for you as we've had a wonderful lifetime of touring and discovering new places and making new friends.
