I’m looking to buy a pole framed porch awning for my 2013 Elddis Affinity 550 and would be grateful for any info on what make and size awnings people with an Affinity 550 have got. I’m considering a 340cm wide awning so I’d also appreciate any advice on which make/size would fit. Many thanks

What type of awning are you looking for? A full or porch type?

Assuming it's a full one then you will have to look in your instruction manual and look at the awning rail length, sometimes known as the A length which is the distance from the ground around the awning rail back to the ground, it should be in there or measure it yourself with a piece of string or beading.

    This might help here

As for makes there are so many and that depends on your intended use, all year round, summer use, using it a lot or only every now and again.

You've said pole so look at steel or lighter materials, personally I would look at air awning too. I've had both and would never go back to pole.

Choosing the width of any porch awning is really down to you deciding where along the caravan you want the awning to be and does it cover a window or a hatch when fitted. Just lay a tape measure on the ground to see if a 3.4m Awning will work for you. Our Awning goes from between the door and front window but stops access to the under bed storage from the outside.

We have used Dorema and Isabella porch awnings both were OK but I would favour the Dorema because I like the mud flaps to be on the outside of the awning. I have used all types of poles but much prefer fibreglass.

Aluminium: lightweight but prone to bending

Steel: Strongest of the bunch but heavy and the poles have the momentum to damage the caravan walls very easily both in a storm and when erecting

Fibreglass: Expensive but lightweight and very strong. the downside is there is no way to use a damaged one.

And some advice, with the words of Baz Luhrmann in mind "Use a Storm strap always"
