An uncle of mine uses a small domestic unit in his van. He has cut a hole through the floor in one of his base units and drops the hose into it. He has water proofed the opening and made a blanking panel for when travelling/not needed. If I needed to have an A/C unit this is the route I think I would take.

I can't comment on their use in a caravan, but for them to work as efficiently as possible, all gaps and openings must be sealed off to prevent any hot air coming in from the outside, including where the hose passes through the window. Whether such extra work is something that you would want to go through every time you use the air conditioning unit, only you can decide.0

I've looked at them at the shows but considered them not man enough for the volumn of my van and thought they would not be much better than a couple of small table fans. I am also not a fan of airconditioning so maybe a bit biased. We find other ways of keeping cool even if it means not travelling to places with higher temperatures.

OK peedee, you are not a fan of them, but surely they are man enough. This "small" unit, the cheapest John Lewis do is suitable for 12 to 22 square metres.

What is the difference in ceiling height between an average house at 2.4m and a motorhome. I know on the small model I posted, just as a guide, the floor area should be OK for a caravan at 12+ metres. These domestic units must be a cost effective option for those who want air-con, even if you up-spec to the next size, just to be on the safe side.

Looked at the spec of one of these over the window conditioners and this is what it says:
"cooling capacity of 900W (3000 BTU) or 1460W (5000 BTU) depending on the model and keeps rooms up to 25/30 m³ cool." I think this would struggle in some of the larger units.

@eribaMotters I would be woried about power consumption, the one you listed says 780kW. That cannot be correct and surely must be an error in the listing?

It looks like a typo. Try 780w.
