Thetford Oven Temperature

Hi, for a while now I've thought that the oven temperature is lower than it should be as food has taken much longer to cook than required. I bought an oven thermometer to check this and, sure enough, it's at least 30 degrees lower than it should be.

Has anyone managed to fix this type of problem or do I need a new thermostat assembly (~£80) or can you just get a replacement probe?

Also, does it require a gas safe engineer to replace it if required?

Thanks in advance, Andy.

    On the last point, unless you are hiring your van out, you just need a competent person.

    Not much help I'm afraid but I did have the same problem. It was sorted by the dealer as it was under warranty. It wasn't just the thermometer that was causing a problem as I also had a supply of gas problem. All dealt with but the supply problem hasn't totally gone away.

    It's going in for a habitation service in 10 days. I'll try to remember to ask them what the problem was with the oven temperature.

    @MaxHeadroom

    We have a Swift caravan and Thetford oven and we learnt early on that cooking times had to extended considerably or had the temperature setting higher if possible. Even then it took careful monitoring and checking as it would sometimes overcook things.

    We just live with it and actually tend not to use the oven unless it's something simple, we bought a smallish air fryer to use in its place.

    Over the years we had 10 or 11 different caravan/MH ovens and not one of them cooked the same as the oven at home. Some were hotter and some were cooler. We used them regularly and just learned to adapt.

    Thanks for your feedback all. I'm a competent diy'er having done may updates to the caravan so happy to try and fix it myself.

    If anyone knows of a how-to guide or video that'd be really useful.
