Used Skoda Kodiaq - aftermarket towing
I don't need 7 seats (just a large boot!) and don't mind either manual or dsg if that makes a difference. Diesel not petrol and preference for the 4x4 but not essential.
Thanks in advance

I thought the problem laid with the weights plate of the specific vehicle and it is this you need to check. If a GTW is present you are fine, if not then there is nothing you can do but walk away.

Thanks Colin.
I went to look at a Kodiaq and on checking the plate found it had a nil towing capacity, so headed off sharpish!
The dealer was helpful however suggesting this issues is with the manual 150bhp diesels.
However this seems to make up all the cars I've seen locally within my price range and milage limit. So thinking again about my choices and am looking at the Tiguan - the only downside being the smaller boot space. Towing capacity fine as we only have a small 2 berth van.

I think your dealer may be giving you poor advise. If you look at the online brochure then the 2.0L diesel has a 2,000kg towing capacity potential. It is obviously down to how the original vehicle was specified at the time of order.
Do not discount the 1.5L petrol in the Kodiaq which has a potential 1,800kg towing capacity. I have the engine in an Audi A3 and tow an Eriba Feeling. This is only 2.3m in height, but 2.17m wide and 6m long. I tow at typically 1350kg, but can go up to 1500kg. The engine is more than capable of pulling my van with ease, but my car is fairly light so I do not use my full payload and keep down to 50/55mph. The Kodiaq has the weight on it's side so you you would have no problem.

Hi,
I have a 200bhp Diesel DSG Kodiaq with factory fitted towbar, and I'm very pleased with it. DSG is the way to go
It has a 100Kg towball limit but be aware that some older models only have 80Kg, pre 2020 I think, but double check. You are right about some models not being able to have a retro fit tow bar fitted.
The car itself is brilliant. Just one drawback in my opinion, and thats the 10,000 mile service intervals
