Our Weekend to Remember at Holkham Hall’s Big Little Wellness Weekend

Back in 2023, my husband, then 7-year-old son and I packed up our bikes, sun lotion, and a pair of wellies for an unforgettable trip to Holkham Hall’s pop-up campsite during the Big Little Wellness Weekend. Located within the stunning grounds of Holkham Hall, the Club's pop-up campsite is the perfect base for family time together. The activity weekend was packed with fun, relaxation, and plenty of laughs.
2023's activities (please note activities will be different in 2025)
To say the estate was breathtaking would be an understatement. Green fields with deer roaming, serene woodlands, and the grandeur of Holkham Hall itself set the stage for a weekend that blended wellness and outdoor fun perfectly.
The pop-up campsite was great and had all the facilities you need including washrooms and toilets. I even had a sneak peak at the yurts, which looked super cosy and perfect for anyone who wants their non-caravanning and motorhoming friends and family to join them!
One of the highlights for my son was the foraging activities. His love for nature came alive as we wandered through the woodland, learning to identify edible mushrooms and plants and then cooking them up later with the fantastic foraging instructor. My son's enthusiasm was contagious, but the moment that had everyone laughing was when he stumbled upon a gigantic mushroom. He proudly held it up for all to see. That experience sparked a love of foraging in him. Almost two years on and we still go foraging and he even had a beach foraging birthday party!
The Forest School was another big hit. While we crafted beautiful flower art together, the sweet pastry toasting session quickly became his second favourite activity of the weekend. It felt so lovely to just relax and watch all the kids explore and create.
There were moments during the weekend that I got to recharge, too. I managed to sneak in a peaceful yoga session. It was the perfect way to unwind while my son was happily engaged in his adventures. I also loved roaming the gardens and grounds which were so beautiful!
We also spent plenty of time exploring Holkham’s estate. Riding our bikes along the scenic lanes and taking in the beauty of the grounds all around us. We even hopped on a tractor ride to see even more of the estate, which wasn't just fun but also incredibly interesting as it takes you on a tour of the grounds, with a guide explaining about the land, how it's sustainably farmed and also the history of the Estate, which was fascinating. Pond dipping was another fun activity organised by the estate, as we scooped up little critters and learned more about the aquatic world. My son loved being up close to the wildlife and natural beauty.
To top it all off, we made several visits to the amazing woodland play area. It was every kid’s dream, filled with treehouses, bridges, climbing frames, swings, slides and a zip wire. Safe to say, my son had to be gently dragged away when it was time to leave!
Another highlight for us was Holkham National Nature Reserve and Beach. Just a short drive away, the beautiful sandy beach went on for miles. Perfect for sand castles and kites, the flora was also very stunning and ideal for dog walks too as the beach is open to on lead dog walks all year round.
Our long weekend away at Holkham Hall was a mix of fun, discovery, relaxation, and really special memories. It’s a place that captures the magic of nature while offering the perfect activities for parents and children alike. We left with full hearts, sandy shoes, and a promise to return someday soon (I'm hoping this year as the Wellness weekend is back for 2025 at Holkham Hall)!
