Has anybody ever been to Scandinavia with a caravan or motorhome?
Might be looking at a Scandinavia trip in the future, Sweden and Finland, and wondering what experience people might have had

Like @nelliethehooker I went a long time ago (2004) travelling from Calais to get to Norway. Its a long way and you need plenty of time. My trip was over 60 days and we entered Sweden via the Oresund Bridge and then on to Norway. There are also ferries from Denmark to Sweden. It would probably help responses if you have any idea of how you will cross the Channel and how much time you have? One thing for certain, travel costs will not be cheap but it is a worthwhile trip if you have the time to do it justice.
This is what I wrote in my notes about the journey from Calais to Oslo:
"The trip from Calais to Oslo was tedious, We took 14 days (we spent 6 days touring Denmark) and the highlights for us on this section were the visits to Arnhem, Legoland and Copenhagen. Northern Germany around Plon was interesting but we found the Jutland coastline uninspiring. The trip through Sweden didn't do too much for us either even though we did not race up the E6 but took an inland route which was quieter and a little more interesting.

Came across this fabulous record of a return trip in 2024 from UK to Norway's far north.
Worth a look for the pictures alone.

We have toured a couple of times, but it was a while ago. Roads were relatively quiet, side and of good quality in most of Sweden, although some in the far north had pretty rough surfaces. Camp sites were grand and we had not problems finding them. Very reasonably priced when we were there but could be a lot more expensive these days, as fuel is too I suspect. When being overtaken it used to be the responsibility of the lead vehicle to pull onto the hard shoulder to allow the following vehicle to pass, rather than them going over to the opposite carriageway to overtake.

“Travel costs will not be cheap”…. On the contrary there are flights from Stansted to Oslo in May 2025 for £27 return (yes return) .IThe flight only takes two hours. There are options of you wish to fly to Sweden too
This is the sensible way to travel these days. Fly and rent. Hire a car. Use AirBnb. Discover Booking. com. Ride the trains.0 -
I thought that this was a forum for those with Caravans and Motorhomes, not for those that want fly/drive holidays ET

Thank you. I might give this a second thought.
