Going to France and Italy for 3 months,heading towards Pisa,any suggestions where to stay

    depends on your route and time of year. We used to go Autoroute France to Basle, Switzerland, then Italian lakes then South. Italian sites notoriously tight on pitch size and can get quite crowded so that part of your trip probably needs the most planning. Normally we never book but if you are going peak holiday season then it’s advisable.

    I had a simple plan … bought guide books, identified the places I wanted to visit, …and went there. I just don’t know the places you want to visit.

    We went to Italy at least ten times and probably crossed their frontier in ten different places. But my own preference, if money is no object, would be a few days in the Chamonix valley to ride the big cable cars, then through the super expensive Mont Blanc tunnel, and then to explore some of the national park offshoots from the main Aosta valley on the sunnier side of the mountains, and head on south from there.

    As for Pisa it only deserves one day visit.
